Ahem. Time for a pun.

They were all in the Gutter' but now some of them are looking into 'Space.*

* Okay, okay. We're not 'Space anymore but it really didn't work with "Genesis".

it was an insult, if you meant it as a joke or not.
I guess I'm just an asshole then. But you don't have to justify yourself to me.

Anyway, I think I made my point here, and got the response I should have expected.
Well, we tend to be a bit reactionary, particularly under a context like this. I can see why CJ was insensed. In a topic like this, with someone you don't know, it can be hard to know what one's intent is...particularly since typing can't put intonation in. And though you didn't mean it, reading an assumption into the joke isn't hard.

I think the reason we're so hard on gutterfly (at least me personally) is mostly because of the spam issue. Much the way you hate ads, many of us really, really hate spam. We get it so often and it drives us into a bit of a killing frenzy. You should see some of the doozys we've gotten in the past. Spamtacular.

Animosity aside, I actually read your comic and liked it. Are you going to get your own address?

Not me. I like having more pages then just the comics page so DD is out for me. And I -really- dislike intrusive ads on my website (I find giving me Australian related advertisements merely because I'm Australian intrusive ;)), so CG is out. ESPECIALLY the type of places that CG has ads for.

By the way, I didn't spam any of you or tell you to move. I like a ton of CG comics :) Although I do find this thread pretty mean-spirited. There was a very minor, minor group of people at CG who spammed you.

We've got nothing against the individuals who didn't spam, but I'm sure you could understand how getting spam from a place, from however few individuals, could give one a bad impression of the place as a whole. (The whole trojan thing didn't really help, either.)

Anyhow, good on ya, mate.

Ahhh. I see we have Australia's answer to Oscar Wilde among us.

Get him.

Cute bell versus gruff-yet-gentle Cosgrove. That's not a bet I can enter into lightly.

Oooo, yeah. But it's hard to resist a belle bell. :D

On the other hand, it's Cosgrove.

Hmmm.
My money is on the *flips coin* inanimate object.
Granted, 'my money' is the penny I just flipped.

Cosgrove is great, but I laughed at that bell for five minutes straight.

(I think I need to get more sleep...)

They may not...I took a look at their temporary forum and there are a few hosting groups already there advertising themselves and looking to pick them up. (I guess there's a slight irony to that.) So they may just go with those instead.
Maybe I should go over there and promote ComicOstrich... :) (Or, considering their reaction in that previous discussion here and on their forums... maybe not.)

It's too bad about Gutterfly shutting down, though. :(

this will always be my favorite, i'll link it rather than posting it though, as it is somewhat big.

I have to admit that I have been rather unfair. I do not have anything against the people at Gutterfly who didn't spam. What I have against are the few individuals who not only spammed but later decide to disrespect and impersonate me for doing my job as an administrator at DD. Then I go over here and they're spamming here too.

When I raised the issue over at Gutterfly Comix, the message I got out of one of your admins was that it wasn't on their forums, so it's not their business.

To be fair, I could have misunderstood and generally, I probably shouldn't hold Gutterfly Comix responsible for the actions of its few members who are in the minority. I am sure that most of you are wonderful individuals and talented.

Again, the best of luck to those who aren't part of that minority. If you want to mirror on DrunkDuck, you are more than welcomed to. I don't want to make it sound like I don't want any of you there. I would even suggest NightGig too but they're not accepting applications at the moment. I don't want to go off and spam in your forums since it just seem so...vulture like.

I think the idea itself is quite nice but from what I've been gleaming from how NightGig and DrunkDuck work, it takes up a lot of money. NightGig has no ads except a community promotion of some sort but they're more exclusive so they can control their growth. DrunkDuck from what I understand, doesn't make that much money and whatever money it does make, it goes right back into itself. There is no money in free webcomic hosting, at least not at the beginning.

Yeah, I see what you mean about things being misread on the internet.
Thanks for the kind words about my comic. I'm applying over at Transplant Comics, so hopefully it'll be up there fairly soon.

1. Oooh... Subtle.
2. Somewhat less so.

i still dont think a single static ad at the top of the page is intrusive, particularly when you look at the modern internet as a whole.
