Gutterfly Comix closing down

Post by Joel Fagin »

I mention it only because we had a bit of an... exchange with them but, yeah, closing down November 26. Aparently there's no money in webcomics.

I honestly don't remember hearing much of anything about Gutterfly Comix... I guess I must be terribly out of the loop. Ah, well... *sheds an insincere tear for them*

Man, I had totally forgotten about them until I re-read that thread.

At least their name makes me a little bit happier about "Comic Genesis".

That's sad and I feel for people hosted there, but I got tired of being told that I should move my site to Gutterfly (someone hosted there kept emailing me telling me how slow and ad covered my comic genesis site is and that I should change THREE TIMES )

Not surprised. Even my comic would not have met their exacting standards of lack of audience.

Given all the negatives (not to mention spamming us), it's no wonder...

Who else can we piss off and, by doing so, catalyze their eventual demise?

Yeah, it's sad when bad things happen to fellow webcomic artists... and yet...

I would be more sympathedic if they didn't go into DD, spam, then decided to anonymously mock me for asking them to stop. Still, didn't see it coming. I didn't realize they were hoping to make money out of it. I feel bad for the artists though but I'm sure they'll find some other place to host them.

I'm sure they'll all migrate to ComicGen and DD

Yeah, or get their own addresses. There's a wide selection of options, and I think all involve less censorship and more space.

Oh yeah, and less spam.

They may not...I took a look at their temporary forum and there are a few hosting groups already there advertising themselves and looking to pick them up. (I guess there's a slight irony to that.) So they may just go with those instead.

Either way, good luck to the artists.
