Comics that got you started...
We were all Noobs here at one time or another, most of us a lot longer ago than others. but either way, at some point in time, we all stumbled across KeenSpace/ComicGenesis for some reason or another. So How did you get started here?
I know that I've always loved to draw, and have always shown great interest in creating thing of my own design. but The Idea of my own comic had never occured to me untill I was looking at art and things online about a little more than a year ago. I Stumbled across a Web Comic called The Lounge while I was looking around at OnlineComics.net. And I absolutely loved it. I don't know why but it had an aura about it that forced me to keep coming back. (this was when The Lounge was just starting, or so I think it was.) This got me interested in Webcomics So I kept looking around for more. But I never found anything else that caught me again untill I found NewsCast. O_O Amazed I realized that I would die to draw as well as these people who do this stuff. I just so happen to notice the KeenSpace Logo on a lot of WebComics after that, so I decided to give this place a look... and well, Here I am! On the same site, being able to Talk to the comic creators that influenced me so much!

uh my first comic I worked on was here...but I never actually visited the site(I was like an art slave ._.)
So I was concious of it for a long time. THe reason I brought junkRIOT here instead of just putting on my site like my other comics was for more exposure. And then about 2 months ago I found out you guys rule.

I found 'Space after I found Wounded Souls and EternalQuest on the Polykarbon forums, though it Black Tapestries that really got me convinced about going with Keenspace. I didn't find the forums 'til the very end of January '04, when signups were suspended without any explanation.
RLC, the Keenspace/ComiGen chicken.

Colours, like the memories of my heart...wait...
I first heard of Keenspace when D.C. Simpson mentioned it in one of his rants about four years ago. It stayed in the back of my mind, and hence was my first port of call when I decided I wanted to do a webcomic.
I found the Keenspace forums via Keenspot forums when Ghastly mentioned what a happening place they are (particularly in comparison to Keenspot Central).

I'm embarrassed to say I found Keenspace... In addition to webcomics in general... through a Sprite Comic... It wasn't even a very good Sprite comic! But, at the time, it was one of the most unique thing I'd even seen! ( Boy, that sense of novelty wore off fast! )
After that, I began to explore the KS guide. Through it, I discovered comics like Shifters & Okashina Okashi. These comics would latter inspire me to start my own comic.
Actually, Nyuterran Chronicles started out as a novel. Until that day my mother pointed out the drawing book that would reignite my interest in art. After that: I put two and two together, and well, there you go.

A friend of mine told me one day 'we're writing a webcomic and you're drawing it'. It ended up on Keenspace, which I'd never heard of before, as I'd not even been aware of webcomics before.
Now he no longer reads them, and I'm doing it all solo.
It's not like I ever planned it...some things just happen, eh?

I've been wanting to make comics since I got hooked on Sailor Moon and Elfquest at age 12, but for a long time, it was more a far-fetched dream than anything else. Though it's getting better, Denmark has very little in the way of a comic industry and back then, there were nowhere a beginner could start out - all the comics being published were, and are, by artist who established themselves in the 80ies. On top of that, the (really sucky) ideas that I had were more manga-like than anything else, and back then, there was no such thing as manga here. Plus the fact that I was frickin' twelve and couldn't draw to save my life, of course.
The thought of making comics as an amateur and putting them on the web didn't strike me before I finally stumbled upon my first webcomic when I was about 15 (I think it was Unicorn Jelly), and even then, I hesitated. For some reason, I'd gotten the impression that you had to have your own domain and a spiffy graphics program to do webcomics, and as a contrast, I was a pathetic little girl with a Geocities account, MSPaint and no scanner. I think I first found Keenspace through Venus Envy (linked from UJ) and was amazed at the thought of a professional-looking webcomic hosting service with more benefits than Geocities. Actually, I didn't know that 'Space had a spotted reputation before joining the forums - my first impression was "this is too good to be true, where's the part about sending $10,000 to Ethiopia?".
Also, at this point I'll have to admit that the fab four are right about the brand confusion thing: I had no clue about the difference between 'Spot and 'Space (thought they were the same and couldn't remember the name), so I kept coming back to 'Spot looking for free hosting.
Oh well, it worked out in the end, it seems.

The first online comic I ever read was Something Positive. Then Queen of Wands... after that, I think Devil's Panties, and then it becomes a quagmire of comics, with no discernable beginning or end.
Sometime around Queen of Wands, I decided to do a comic. The idea was similar to How not to run a comic - "I know! It'd be cool to do my very own comic!1!1!!!ONE!"
Once I started tho, I got a few fans. Now I know that conventional wisdom is not to write for your fans, but for yourself. Baloney. I write for my fans. I have to - it's a comic that answers their questions.
Anyhow, having no professional background in drawing, and no great skills despite several art classes (most of which the professors just shook their heads at me in despair), I really can't say that any comic influenced me. More like, Mr. Wizard, Bill Nye, bad science reporting, Mr. Elseth (my favorite science teacher), and a host of other science people influenced me.
