noob is a term only internet newbies really use. It is l33t, which equals stupid.

*is a grumpy old man, who oh so clearly remember the time before l33t. Ah, the days. The MUDs, the strife to keep webpages below 5 kb, the good old Netscape Navigator*

It's more traditional to drown kittens in a sack then shoot them in a barrel

If you think about it, shooting fish seems a bit like overkill.

It's like running over fish in a barrel with a tank.

Or putting the fish in the barrel of a tank, and then shooting them.

I love these threads. They attract newbies like flies to a fish carcass after it's been shoved down the barrel of a tank and shot at someone. It's when the "hi, I'm new" thread falls down to the bottom of the list that you get hordes of people who join the forums and never get Box'd.

I was one of those. Never got up the courage to start my own "hi I'm new" thread, and there wasn't one already in existence, so I never got shoved in The Box. Now my post count is far too high to hit in there. :D

In my day we didn't have these new fangled boxes.

I missed out on the box too. I'm not sure if they even used a box when I joined.

I managed to sneak my way past the box. I did get malleted, though, so I'm probably worse off...

I have no idea whether I'm in the box, or if I ever was. I don't think most people here notice me enough to bother putting me in anything.

I've never done a "Hey there, I'm new thread".

I just sort of show up.

Nobody asks how them rocks got hollow! In my days the rocks weren't hollow; In my day we had to hide under rocks and throw sand at people to get their attention. And then, when we ran out of sand, we had'ta chip out bits of stone with our toe nails. Yessireee we did. And now they're hollow see? Aye.

Most likely not Netscape Navigator. Netscape Communicator or some Mozilla variant is my bet.

And thus PAL illustrates one well known property of physics: speak of something that has never happened to you, and it will happen to you.

Also related is the principle of "we'll never be hearing from that thing again", as well as "Nothing can stop me now".
