If you ever actually meet Vite, you can bring us a preciouss information of whether he is a male or female. And perhaps his adress so me and Yarpsdat could send him a present or two.

This is gonna sound mean, but I don't think all the people who want to be at the con for both days should have to miss it just cause VileTerror is being picky. I mean, the admission isn't all that much: if yoou don't like anime, just hang out with people and don't buy anything.

Okie dokie it seems people would be down for Anime North to meet and greet and have a gay old time. Things can change from now until then so I guess this topic will be around and then late February or early March or so we start finalizing who's coming and so forth.

Meh, it's all quite clear. Vile doesn't intend to go to any con or meet any people whatsoever. He just wanted to say that he hates anime.

T_T

I'm trying to see if ladyfriend can get freed up in may, and then see if I myself can get that time. I've always wanted to go to a con. This seems like a pretty fitting time.

Yeah.

Don't change your schedule on account of my opinions. However, if anyone could spare time for a second meet, perhaps on Webcomic Awareness Day, we could arrange two Ontario get-togethers.

Unless W.A.D. is also on that May weekend . . .

I have nothing against meeting outside of the con as well, though I don't think I'll wanna spend a whole day at it.

'Course, if anyone's going to rent a room in the hotel (like I am likely to do) we can just hang out in the hotel at some point, and VT is more than welcome to join us there.

I myself have only been to one, but that was CN Anime and I didn't actually go to the Anime "floor." It wasn't so bad.

But come! If only for the company! :D
Anime North has to be one of the most god awful conventions I've ever been to. The first year I went to it it wasn't too bad. It was held in a real hotel. Then the hotel went bankrupt and instead of moving it to a decent location like, oh, say the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, they moved it down the street to a crap-tacular location. It's now in an old industrial warehouse which is completely unsuited for use as a convention centre. To make matter worse you will suffer hearing damage if you stay inside the building for too long. The noise levels are horrible. With no internal walls to seperate all the different things going on it's just one big mish-mash of noise. It was enough to make me feel physically ill after awhile and I had only popped my head into the con for a few hours on the last day. I can't imagine how bad it would have been to have to suffer through the entire convention. I have friends who were dealers there and they told me it was hellish.

It's bad enough that Anime North picks Mississauga as a location, way out in the middle of nowhere, almost inaccessable to anyone without a car but they also chose the crappiest of buildings in this crappy location to house the damned thing. Now it might be cheap, but hell there are even cheaper locations outside Mississauga they could pick with real convention centres, not old converted warehouse space. Hell they could get a better deal hosting it in Hamilton within walking distance of the bus/train station but I think they like to pretend that by hosting it in Mississauga they're a Toronto convention and as all Canadians are well aware, Toronto is not only the centre of Canada, but the centre of the known and unknown universe, all that is, all that was, and all that ever will be.

It would probably be a fun convention if the location and convention centre didn't absolutely suck so much.

CN-Anime/Comics/Sci-fi/Horror/Gaming Expo, on the other hand is a truly first rate convention in a truly first rate location (right downtown Toronto a block away from the bus/train station) in a kick-ass convention centre (the Metro Toronto Convention Centre). I've seen the floorplan for the 2005 convention and I can tell you it's going to be extremely kick-ass this year. Twice as big as last year's. Definetly a first class show.

Much better than the Jurrasic Industrial Park that Anime North is located in. Blech!

Well we can just spend a couple hours in there; there are people who want to go. And like Sam said, we can go back to (whoever's) hotel room and kick around for a while if the anime freaks are driving us nuts.

And wait... Anime North is in Mississauga? :o
Or did I read that wrong?

Hmmm... When is this other convention you speak of, Ghastly? Got a website for it? Mayhapse we can go to it instead.

And if Anime North is the one we go to, and it does suck, well there's nothing saying we have to actually stay there. We can always head off and do something else. Toronto has a fair deal more to do anyway :)

CN Anime is in August - or at least, it was last year.
Definitely much fun.

But perhaps it would be worth the wait for a better quality con?

So... am I the only person on these forums that isn't from Ohio or Canada? And why does it seem that there's an inordinate amount of comickers in Ohio, anyway? It's very disconcerting to me.

Not to be too off-topic, but any 'Space cadets in the Seattle area, planning to visit the Emerald City Comic Con? Scott Kurtz, Gabe and Tycho, Jhonen Vasquez, and I are all going to be there! Stop in and say "Hi!" to me. I'll be in Exhibitor's Booth 413, representing the SPA, which is based in Ohio. (see how it all comes back around?)
