Meh, I can let it go this time, and that other time, but if you go on with being hostile and attacking people over nothing, then it will be an issue.William G wrote:People, I assume that you're all able to read over a twelfth grade level and knew that it was an off the cuff statement. It's not something to hijack a thread over.Soap Soaperson wrote: Buuut, whatever makes you happy, dude.
But if some of you insist on play this game of patticake- Go be pointlessly defensive on your own time. Dont keep wasting mine.
I bumped into a webcomic artist online, and he snail-mailed me some stuff. I knew if he could do it, so could I.ivstudios wrote:I sort of did the "I can draw better than that" thing too. It's not what made me want to start doing my comic, but it did help me get over being nervous about finaly doing it. I figured "if these people have a web comic, then there's no reason I cant handle having one too."

Y'see Pin, you need to look at it from my angle:RPin wrote:I agree with Srdjan. You seem really out of character lately, Bill. Is there something wrong?
I come here, issue what I consider a passing, unimportant statement. And yet, I keep reading these challenging posts that come from out of left-field.
And they're not the "I disagree and here's why" sort of chellenging posts. They're more the "I'm so enjoying my superiority" type. And quite honestly I dont suffer nonsense like that easily.
Despite what they may be claiming, my "hostility" is in response to theirs. Simple as that.

Or, it could be that you took what I said way too seriously. But I can understand why.

coincidentally I bought this book a couple weeks ago. fun read.Col wrote:I'd recommend checking out his book "Understanding Comics." It's an insightful read, even for those who already are into comics. It's not necesarrily a How-to book actually. It's more like an overview of how comics developed over the years and how it all works. Good stuff.

Its not just this post though, there's also the reviewer thread you were getting openly hostile, and outright... dare I say defensive? We aren't here to start fights or flame wars. People have thier rights to thier opinions, and you have the rights to yours. but to discredit someone cause you think they are wrong all base on your own "inferrior" opinion does drive the nerves. I've been biting my fingers on saying somthing. as in the past you have not acted so juvinile.William G wrote:Y'see Pin, you need to look at it from my angle:RPin wrote:I agree with Srdjan. Its not becoming, and would rather not to have all the floors coloured yellow.

1. Why don't you try to look at it from our angle?William G wrote:Y'see Pin, you need to look at it from my angle:RPin wrote:I agree with Srdjan.
2. Speaking for myself, I can say that I tried to respont to what seems to me as an open insult to Soap in most calmed manner, and not even referring directly to you, and all in order not to make another argument-close-to--flame-war with you.
3. Your comment is not extracting itself by it's message, but by it's tone. It is uncalled harsh. Try to be less agressive when stating something because people are not used to that knid of behaviour.
4. Indeed subjects of those messages are not "I disagree with you". They are "You're not respecting basic rules of good manners. You're being agressive and disrespecting people to whom your post is reffering."
That is important, because next time someone really disagrees with you, he might as well expect blank Van-Douchebagy "you're an idiot, thus there's no purpose in arguing with you" statement.
Actually, you're already doing something similar. You're negating everything that's said by simply saying that we act as if we were superior to you. Do be kind and give me an example of where someone reffered to you as inferior because I cannot remember such example.
5. It's you who's having aura of superiority. Pay attention:
Now, see what you're doing here? Dividing people into 'serious artists' and 'not serious artists', where you, of course, are serious artist, because you know, who is Scott Macloud and because you haven't started just because you thought you were better than someone else. So, you're putting yourself superior to them. You're stating you're superior to Soap because she isn't into comic theory as much as you. You're saying you're superior to amateup artists, meaning those who are not too ambicious over comics. But most obviously, you're stating you're superior to those who started because they thought they were better than someone else. Knowing which artists started that way, you have no right to do that.William G wrote: You should run of to your local library, or comic shop, and pick them up if you're at all serious about comic making and arent just in it because you figured you were better at drawing than someone else.
Again, you're "superior" to Soap, because you're judging her. From one post, you conclude that she is either a: enjoying in looking down to other people, or b: insecure, or c: flamer. Are you both asking because...
a) You're wanting me to name names so you can make fun of them?
b ) Asking because you're feeling insecure about yourselves and you'd like me to reassure you that I dont mean you?
or
c) Hoping that I can provide you with the justification to get into the online brawl you're obviously itching for?
Please be clear and concise. We wouldnt want any jumping to conclusions that arent there simply because there was some confusion over the use of the word "you"
And, I must mention that in this post you are making one often logical mestake that sophists often used intentionally to win the argument without real arguments: making an offer of choices, where choices given don't cover the entire ground. The one who's trapped into picking from your choice is deemed to loose because he's not given a right choice.
It is as if you were saying "You are either with me or against me" even though people could be indiferent as well.
I believe someone who is more into logic and philosophy might even remember the name of this pharadox.
But this is not important, we weren't having any serious arguement, and your sophism, although annoying, didn't have any real value. So you may as well ignore the last part if you want.
So you see, it's you in the whole story who is acting superior to other people. Then why are you acusing people of that? Are you, by chance, projecting yourself?
6. If you had some tough argument on some other forum or some problems in real life, it's not fair to take them out on us.
. You may say that your comment was passing, casual, but it's two comments here and a lot more in other thread. Plus, even casual comments can talk about attitude and intentions of a person.
And at the end, if you spil poison in small, passing comments, I wouldn't like to see what happens when you're in a real arguement.
Col: There is no bitterness over the latest Penny Arcade Jihad. Hell, I wasnt even around for it. There's only a well-deserved lack of respect for them and their fan base on my part. That may or may not change depending upon how Gabe replies to my email.
