God damn. I just got my electricty back from it being off for two days because the bill was a tiny bit late. That sucked soooo horribly. I don't understand how anyone can possibly live like that. I was able to entertain myself for about 20 minutes before I was bored again. There is just NOTHING to do that doesn't require power of some sort anymore. It nearly drove me nuts. -_-
But, the power is back now. And it's good. ^_^

Ooooooo... Been there. I don't envy you one bit. You can always read during the day, and at night if you can find a comfortable position with a flashlight or a battery powered reading light, but still.
Unless you've got a gas powered stove you're pretty much on cold food... but then again the refridgerator's out so there goes your milk and other perishables. So luke-warm snacks like chips and wheat-thins (which are suprisingly addictive) are the food of choice.
Anyway, welcome back to the light.

If you had the equipment, you could play go. (of course, you would need lightsource in the night... though, actually, there is something called "blind go" where you don't use the board and instead you try to remember all the moves, but it's for advanced players, or the super-memory freak kids)
Yeah, I'm obsessed.
The first thing that came to my mind when I saw Lost in space by mcDuff and faub (especially the 4th one) was "he could play go through the radio".

I get power outages all the time in the winter. With only 4 hours of day light, it's even harder to find things to do.

I suppose I could attempt to play it by myself, though, I don't see much of the point...YarpsDat wrote:If you had the equipment, you could play go. I think the ironic thing about the whole situtation was that I had just made a comment about, "I get bored easily if I don't have something electronic to play with for at least a half hour." and then the power went dead.
God hates me.

Long story ahead
During Milosevic's goverment, we had a several years when, due to shortage of electricity, we had it cut about 18 hours a day. It went on in, I think, 1995, 96, 97 or something like that, several winters in a row, almost entire day without electricity. To make it worse, propaganda machinery was working full time, trying to make us believe that we're cut only six hours a day or so, that the rest of the time everything was normal. It's now well-known that at the time they were selling electricity (and of course, stuffing money into their own pockets) and that's why the shortages. So, yeah, I don't even remember entirely how I managed not to die from boredom; Couldn't read - too dark. Couldn't listen to music - batteries too expensive; I remember playing with wax from candles a lot.

Dude, it blows me away to think that you can say that so nonchalantly.mcDuffies wrote:During Milosevic's goverment...[snip].
Your country's been through a lot, and yet you can say what you said up there with a smile, not trying to reach for sympathy or anything...
When I think of how some other people here in North America whine for the silliest, pettiest things... just wow, man.
I respect you muchly, sir.
(And damn, dude -- your English is amazing!!)

Last time the power was out here it was because of the San Simeon earthquake. I was off innocently watching Return of the King when the floor started shaking an' such (right as they're lighting the giant torch things)... And one of the friends I was with thought it was some sort of special effect because she was sort of sick. Meanwhile I was freaking out because I seriously thought that the theater's ceiling was going to collapse on us.
The power was out all day (keep in mind we went to the 10:15 showing and got there at 9 because we wanted our favorite seats... ) and we were only about an hour into the movie. We got readmit tickets though and went over to my house to hang out.. And my dazed friend was afraid of driving us because it hadn't been six months since she got her liscence and was afraid of getting pulled over by a cop (it took some convincing that people would be more freaked out about the earthquake than about some person driving friends).
We called the theater at about 3, even though the power was still out here, and their power was on there and we went back for the 3:45 showing
We thought it would be ironic if the movie cut out at the same point, but it didn't.
I think the only bad thing about that day was learning that two people died up in Paso Robles. But then again that was fairly lucky.. a lot more people could have died.
(Yes, I love telling this story

My best friend is from Montenegro, his command of the english language is better than most Americans... but then again most Americans wouldn't know the english language if it bit them on the ass.(And damn, dude -- your English is amazing!!)
I had a girlfriend whose father came from Serbia, he was just as fluent.

mcduffies: Like SkyLark_King says, your grasp of the language is far better than many native speakers I know. Your spelling, likewise. (incidentally, I'm actually a native French-Acadian -- English is also my second language, go figure)
Skylark_King: You have just gone up about four notches on my Damonk Respect-O-Meter for quoting XTC in your sig.
Myself: Get off the forums already and go play some old school MM7 or something, dammit!
