"Wasn't the purpose of this thread" ... When has that stopped anybody from posting something to this forum before? :)

I apologize!! Even after I bashed people for doing it, I turned around and did it - if not for myself, just to have it there.

Yep, long posts with checking for cliches do dilute the thread, it's hard to even keep track of new cliches added to a list.
Maybe mod should split the thread.

I've already split this thread into three seperate categories: Cliches I've used, Cliches I haven't used yet but plan on using, and Cliches I never would have thought to use until now. Thank you, Keenspace forums!

A little off topic, but I was watching 21 Grams last weekend, and does every movie have to have an obligatory cocaine snorting scene? First of all, they always do it badly...rant.

I don't remember seeing any cocaine in Mary Poppins...

But I gotta admit, that scene with the so-called "chalk" drawings and the ensuing wacky dancing and singing animals always had me suspicious.

There was a Charlie Chaplin movie with a cocaine scene. "Modern Times", I believe it was.

I dunno about that but I know Bambi did.

...

No, wait. That was Robocop.

...

Darnit. Now I've confused myself. Did Bambi's mother come back as an undead or a cyborg?

Oh, come on Bob... "A Spoonful of Sugar" was just a veiled reference to cocaine use. The chalk scene was more of an acid freak-out.

And "Let's Go Fly a Kite"??? It's about getting high!

"Toppins a Bag"... eight-balls.

I could go on, but I'm afraid I'm crushing my inner child.

No wonder that dude in the striped jacket didn't freak out with all the penguins...

Speaking of which, what's the flying carpet scene in Aladdin all about anyway?
Disney folks wrote:I can open your eyes

On a magic carpet ride

Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky

Hold your breath - it gets better
I'm like a shooting star
I've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be

A whole new world
That's where we'll be
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place
For you and me

Hm... well there's always the quiet (Or mute/deaf/blind) character that doesn't do anything but follow the main character (Or main badguy) around for no apparent reason, until suddenly an event happens and they unleash a powerful ability.

Katanas. (Sorry Brockway.) I like them, but god damn, does EVERY thing with swords in it HAVE to use Katanas? There are thousands of other sword types in the world, yet Katanas are always at the forefront of every swordslinging comic, even if it takes place a half a world away from Japan.

Evil Twins. I'm surprised no one's mentioned this.

This next one applies to most Anime-based comics:
Japanese characters. Just because the comic is done in Japanese Anime STYLE does not mean the main characters HAVE to be Japanese. I don't understand why people make characters that don't LOOK Japanese (Most anime characters do NOT look Japanese), they don't ACT Japanese, and they don't LIVE in Japan, yet they have a Japanese name, and spout random japanese phrases (That one was covered partially, though).

And last but not least:

Cracks at Microsoft. Even if it's not a computer based comic anything modern-day related generally has a crack at Microsoft or Bill Gates at one time or another.
