...You're right, of course...

I would hope you can at least understand how I might have a bit of a negative gut-level reaction to what I've heard. It gets really, really, really tiresome to try to tell a guy why, exactly, you're not interested in as polite terms as you can, just to have him tell you with all the confidence and certainty that true ignorance can impart, how you're only "that way" because you've not found the "right man" yet... And how he is just as confident and certain that he is that "right man"... And if you don't give him the chance to prove it by sleeping with him, you are simply below contempt.

Not that that gives me a good excuse to judge a film before seeing it for myself. So I guess I should see it when I get the chance. But would you explain the joke to me anyway? Pretty please?

P.S: I don't have to see Gigli, too, do I? I haven't heard anything good about that one.

Who do you get your information from?
Neo-Feminist Nazi Lesbian Man Haters?

What you said was full of crock - the dykes taking this Chasing Amy film so seriously are like those Christians who take Dogma so seriously.
I mean, in Chasing Amy the guy who says "All a lesbian needs is one good dick" was not only the film's idiot, but also turned out to be gay - much like in Dogma they were attacked by a shit demon and God turned out to be Alanis Morisette.

I mean - it's fuckin' Kevin Smith for Christ's sake. The guy wears hooded sweatshirts, makes cock and ass jokes and reads comic books. If you're taking him as a threat to your lesbiandom then you're pretty insecure as a person.

As for Gigli... Kevin Smith did Jersey Girl, not Gigli.

Gee... That's gotta be the most unbalanced and all-around worst reaction I've ever gotten to telling someone they were right and I was wrong.

Not only that, but your wild-assed rant basically missed anything I might have said or implied on all counts.

I didn't say shit about being threatened. I can't imagine anything being "a threat to my lesbiandom." I said I was perpetually annoyed by men telling me they can "fix" me if I just let them shove thier magic penis into a few of my orifices. Any movie that tends to give the average male the impression that any given lesbian can be "turned" by the right guy is likely just going to make my saturday pool nights that much more unpleasant.

As for where I got my information...? I don't think I've heard anyreview of Chasing Amy that didn't say it was at least partially about a lesbian and a str8 man falling in love. You know what? As a lesbian, or a woman, or a human being I just don't have to like that subject matter. While we're at it, although I do love romantic comedies and like most all the good ones like that I've seen, I don't even have to like any movie where a woman kisses or falls in love with a man... I don't have to actually sit down and watch the latest Steven Seagal movie to know I probably won't much care for it, either, and I don't need someone telling me I'm mentally or in any other way inferior for making that judgement call. My time's worth too much to me to see every goddamned movie made just because I might like it.

I also don't give a rat's ass who directed or produced or did the catering for Gigli. For the reviews I've seen it's Ben Affleck, yet again playing the role of the only supermale capable of saving a lesbian from a life of pussy-strewn desolation. Thanks, but I've got better things to do with my afternoon.

I admitted you were right, in that I should at least see a movie before I make too strident an opinionary statement against it... I didn't feel my original statement was that out of line, but I felt badly for possibly insulting something others might like for perfectly valid reasons.

Now, I'll apologise again... This time in case I offended you by mistaking you for a rational, reasonable human being. I won't make the same mistake again.

Or even just kisses? I doubt I could even count the ones who's names I never knew. Sex and kisses are great, and I know they can seem like the most important thing in the world, but lemme tell you (even if it's something you have to learn for yourself. Love is the drug, man. If you know where and how to look, you can get sex just about any time you want.... But love is much more rare... and much more precious.
I must disagree with part of this. There's also the part about knowing where to look and wanting to be there when you find it. I live in a town of 850 people where roughly 3/4 of the people are related to me (or each other) in some fashion or another. The next town out has country music bars. The town after that is the one I'm trying to move to. "Just about any time you want" roughly equals "you want what?" for me.
honor wrote:Ok. Y'all are freekin' nice lookin' people, ya know that? And you're funny and smart!... Nothing's sexier than that combination!! And you have common interests... And this is not the 1700's. We not only got boats and horses and bicycles, we gots trains, planes, and automobiles and everything.
Roughly half of the women who post here are between 14 and 16. In the US you can get arrested from talking to them. The other half are very protective of their significant others. Another half are single but would prefer somebody with super powers and there are a significant number who would rather watch two guys have sex than join in. So, if you're a straight, single guy without super powers, you're pretty much not screwed.

For the record, I will not post a pic of myself because I hate pictures, not because I think it would break your screens. I have one picture from a trip to Paris with me in it because I let somebody else have my camera. The rest were cityscapes and grafitti.

bit, which is basicly the stereotype statement of what every lesbian says about Chasing Amy.

And I'm ain't fucking telling you to watch every movie, I'm just telling you having an opinion about a movie you never watched makes about as much sense as describing a dish you never ate.

You put a lot of emphasis on Ben Affleck, who was only in the movie because he's friends with Kevin Smith and Kevin has a habit of putting Ben in all his movies. I think deep down somewhere in there you wouldn't mind Ben being your organic dildo.

All very good points. Good clarifications. I escaped from a town of about 10,000 right after HS, and even 10k was way too small a population to provide for good hunting for a butchy young dyke, back in the mid eighties.

And yeah, I agree, 14-16 is an excellent demographic to steer well clear of in the romantic pursuits area. unless you are similarly aged. ;-)

And I'm with you on the last point, too... I just don't get the thing with liking to watch guys have sex. Granted... I'm much happier when they're having sex with one another than when they're having sex with women... The thought of that makes me kinda queasey. ;-) All joking aside, though... I did kinda find some of the sex scenes in Queer as Folk sexy, while I still had the movie channels.

Ok. So, if you're hunting for a relationship, and you're not the church socials type, probably best to move to a population center, huh? Beast luck ;-)

Nah, only the shit monster is pertinent to the plot.

Understood. I was just trying to say "You're right, I'm sorry. Here's why (I think) we (lesbians) tend to get a bit overly bitchy on that subject."
Van Douchebag wrote:...You put a lot of emphasis on Ben Affleck... ...I think deep down somewhere in there you wouldn't mind Ben being your organic dildo.
Only 'cause he's the only major actor I can think of off hand who's played the Amazing Lesbian Vaccine in two major motion pictures now. Doesn't that seem just a little wierd to you?
Hm. Still... He is kinda cute, as guys go. Maybe after a sex change I'd be willing to ride him around the block a time or two. ;-)

Why is it that everyone seems to be talking about Chasing Amy as though she was a lesbian? Clearly, if she was attracted to males as well, she was not a "lesbian". How hard is it for movie goers to grasp this concept?

Chasing Amy wasn't about a lesbian falling for Ben Affleck, nor did it contain the point that his best friend was gay -- rather, it was about the fact that sexuality is not the black and white issue that most people make it into.

But I fear I give too much credit to most film watchers.
