EOI = 23% of all traffic to Keenspace

Post by Kisai »

Well two months in a row now EOI has been vaulted to the top from Penny Arcade linkage(Valentines and Aprils Fools.) The server did not crash or anything (okay there was some stress on the DB server because of the newsbox... but that's unrelated)

almost 1 in 4 pages from keenspace are to http://elfonlyinn.keenspace.com , and most of them are referred from Penny Arcade.

For the record, that is MORE than what sexylosers was pulling on a monthly average. (Sexy Losers was between 12 and 20% consistantly)

But thats operating on only 2.5 days of data.

Though for the remaining 24 on PL page 1 (http://guide.keenspace.com/KeenspaceNumPL_1.html ), this makes it so half of the bandwidth is used by only sites on that page.

So here's a bit of a "kinda sorta" poll for people, should I diverge the "top" pages into subcategories?

Reason, only two sites per month ever manage to "move up" to the PL page 1, and chances are people coming to keenspace are only looking at the first two pages (Though all the "sites that update") are on the first four.

One "hidden" secret on the guide right now (subject to change) is indexb, http://guide.keenspace.com/indexb.php , this page will show sites that updated in the last 24 hours.

:O I do not believe it!

I didn't even know Tycho did it until I got home from work last night. Just as I thought I was going to lose traffic for cutting back on my update schedule, too.

Blimey. That's something like 140,000 pages generated a day for EOI. Scarily big numbers.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I'm so happy that this result is achieved by artist who actually likes Keenspace and doesn't just use it as a step to independentation!

As for poll? Umm... I don't know really... What did you have in mind specifically?

Holy crap man, that's just insane! That's like a quarter of the Penny Arcade visitors visiting you from that one link! (rough estimate to go by from the page views)

Wow. Just wow.

Needless to say, a lot of people here are now probably wishing THEY got Tycho for a blind date.

Congratulations. :D

Wouldn't be a bad idea for a webcomic charity, randomly select a webcomic to link on PA.
NJ is also Orion's fiance of sexy passion with the love of a thousand sea monkeys

Way to go, Sorty. It's amazing that PA has the power to convert a normal comic (not that EOI wasn't popular before, but still) into a huge hit...imagine if someone else got linked from them or even you!

Son of a diddly! Now I feel like a fool for turning down Tycho's offer of "sex in exchange for a link on Penny Arcade".

I wonder if it's too late, I've still got the Little Bo Peep outfit he sent me.

I would really like to see the categories Chris Crosby mentioned around Christmas (?) or at least to see the guide be more interactive. I realize you have the code for that already and I really wish they would let you use it.

EOI and Penny Arcade have similar audiences. I can see why they linked it and I'm really surprised they didn't do it sooner. 20% of Keenspace just goes to show how many hits Penny Arcade actually gets. Hopefully Sortelli gets to keep some of those readers but it also means the rest of us are pretty screwed for the top spot (unless EOI gets spotted, of course). You'll notice Digital War moved from page 3 to page 1 pretty quickly too.

The battle for second place between my comic and The Devils Panties is pretty fun to watch. It's like every day we jostle for position. I think I'm holding my own pretty good considering I only post one comic a week.

I don't think I ever have to worry about being on the front page. ;)
Is that so?

Congrats, Sortelli!

I happen to like EOI...it certainly deserves the attention it's getting.

Subcatagories?

Well, if you mean, like a bookstore does (sci-fifantasy, horror, romance, drama, adventure) sure. I wouldn't want to compete with some of the romantic stories here on Keenspace, that's for sure.

If that's NOT what you're talking about...then I have no idea whatsoever.

but... but... i only just managed to claw my way onto page 1!!
(we'll see how long it lasts!!)

what catagories do you have in mind kisai?

i'd be interested to know too, if you had one site which received 1000 visits per day but only had one page (therefore 1000 page loads) but another site that only got one visit per day but had 1001 pages which that very keen visitor read thru all of (therefore 1001 page loads) - who would come out on top in the guide? if it's the second site, then the guide in a way, isn't really showing 'popularity' in some meanings of the word. also sites that have a click thru front page to see the current comic have two page loads up and running before the rest get one. just some musings...

as ghastly says, it is kinda fun watching the jostling for positions (not that our webcomics have anything to do with popularity, no no no) :P

and - yay sortelli! WOOT!!!
Magellan ... super hero cadets - their worst enemy is themselves!
Loxie and Zoot ... cos nudists have adventures too y'know!

I think you probably mean eight. Though in other news, I was on page four one day after the comic trade I did with RPin. I guess that was the first time I'd ever updated.
