My two cents:
I don't know that I can say much about NES and SNES Final Fantasies, becasue I played them all in ROM form, and without a sound card. But I maintain that Chrono Trigger kicks all their asses.
FF7 was good, but I don't understand some people's rabid devotion.
I loved the way you could completely abuse the Card Mod ability in FF8 -- before the end of disc 1, you could have your HP maxed out, ridiculously high strength, and some of the best weapons.
I didn't much care for FF9's plot, and there was a disturbing lack of attractive male characters.
If FF10 hadn't been so linear, it would have been better -- but I still thought it was great. Great enough that I'm going to buy FFX-2, even if it looks like it's geared towards all the fanboys out there.
I'll probably mooch the Advent Children DVD off one of my friends or something...
