well, as i look at my comic, I keep thinking that everyone else on keenspace does a better job of drawing than I do. Then I looked at some great comics, which, I don't want to seem rude, had worse drawing. But they were so GOOD! but I still can't shake the feeling that I'm out of my league <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/frown.gif"> . thank you so much. I talked to a few friends and my dad and they snapped me outta self doubt. You're right, my actuall skill in art is better. I love that artwork, and I think that is one reasonI was doubting myself. The finall thing I needed to snap myself out of it was looking on to future comics, which I'm anxious to get to, so I'm pushing on <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.gif">
finnally, yes, Manga influences my comics for one reason: cause I like the style. wait, 2 more reasons: It simply looks more real to me and I like how the shading under the eyes (my characters always have that). drawing is only a single aspect of a comic, and you can't really judge an artist's skills by his or her webcomic art alone...<P>Amber "Glych" Greenlee is a perfect example of this -- she chooses to use a very simple, stylized form in her webcomic <A HREF="http://glych.keenspace.com/" TARGET=_blank>No Stereotypes</A> (look through the archives), but her comic book art is slick, and of high professional quality...<P>While not as talented as she is, <A HREF="http://framed.keenspace.com/" TARGET=_blank>my webcomic</A> art is ALSO not the same as my normal art (look at my fan art, for example, to see how I can emulate different people's styles)... I deliberately use a very simple raw style for my strip to convey my ideas, as well as the "feeling" that it supposed to be a comic strip universe.<P>Also, I notice that you use a manga-influenced style for your work, as do a large number of new comics currently out there... I'm sure that you yourself did not mean to say this, but I know that there are a number of people who equate non-manga art as bad or worse than manga art...<P>Personally, I find that both can be nice, but that a lot of non-manga art is better, if only for originalty of style...<P>Essentially, I judge "good art" by whether or not the artist can be consistent with characters and backgrounds, is aware of proportion, has an accurate eye for perspective, and is flexible and organic when laying out the comic.<P>But in terms of people being outclassed or out of one's league, don't think that way! <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/biggrin ... P>Everyone is good here for different reasons -- they all have different strengths and weaknesses! <P>So don't feel left out or "out of someone's league"...
