The Cartoonists Choice Awards are alive and well and will soon be coming your way. The final award presentation is currently planned to coincide with Keenspot's first anniversary celebrations. Exact dates will soon be announced along with information on exact registration and voting procedures.
Every comic on Keenspot and Keenspace will be allowed one vote. Please note that comics with multiple authors/artists will have to choose a representative for their strip. It is recommended that groups that have multiple comics divide voting rights so that as many members of the group as possible are allowed to vote.
Once registered, voters can nominate any Keen comic for each of the award categories. Once these nominations are calculated, the top four nominees will be presented and voting will commence for the final winner in each category.
And the categories are:
Best Serial Comic
Best Gag Comic
Best Reality Based Comic
Best Minimalist Comic
Best Anthropomorphic Comic
Best Science Fiction Comic
Best Fantasy Comic
Best Superhero Comic
Best Dramatic Comic
Best School Based Comic
Best Gaming Comic
Best "Other-Genre" Comic
Best Romance
Best Cameo
Best Special Event
Best Supporting Character
Best Female Character
Best Male Character
Best Website Design
Best Concept
Best Writing
Best Art
Best Comic
Start thinking about your choices now, exact dates and instructions should be coming within the next couple of months.
Thank you,
Mark Mekkes
------------------

i will sweep all categories... meaning ill have to clean up after the people who win. i have a very low self-esteem when it comes to the subject of how good either of my comics are... a mere realization that i exist by someone will be enough for me
------------------
so how we gonnakick it?

gonnakick itroot down!
check out myboot camp comic. i find it funny.

I can see four new categories forming...
1. Artist With The Justifiably Lowest Self-Esteem
2. Artist With The Unnecessarily Lowest Self-Esteem
3. Artist With The Unnecessarily Highest Self-Esteem
4. Artist With The Justifiably Highest Self-Esteem
I'm guilty of it myself, but I'm tired of seeing folks say "My comic sucks" when I really like them. (See, in my case, I think the comic's good but I expect the rest of you to think it sucks.)
On the other hand, I'm also tired of seeing folks say "I have the coolest, freshest comic on the web, baby, yeah!" when they make my comic look like I must be the genetically engineered offspring of Bill Amend, Howard Tayler, and Tatsuyo Ishida.
(shudder)
--Strange
------------------
Vicious Lies. Falsely promising you a grand opening since Friday the 13th.
Neurotic -- sane, but
unhappy about it.

Well, if you wanted to, Marshall, you could vote for AiS in Minimalist, reality-Based, Gag, and Other-Genre. If you wanted to. Please. I'll let you marry my firstborn.

------------------

Okay, since I'm relatively new to the arena, I would like some of you to look at my comic Obscure Imagery, and then decide if it's worth nomination. Which brings up the point, how do we nominate? Personally, I think it's no surprise that "RPG World" should be nominated for both Best Serial and Best Gaming Based Comic. That's just my opinion, but I would like to know how to make it official. In addition, what are the dates that nominations need to be made by, and when and where do the votes need to be made. Then, after all of the drama...all of the cheers...all of the shattered dreams of a virtual award...where do we get the results from.
------------------

I'm all depressed... there's no way AiS can win the Minimalist category if Boxjam is in there, too...
------------------

I think I'm going to start campaigning for a write in category: "Best comic to appear for a month daily then go on a five month hiatus and come back as a weekly". Personally, I think it's in the bag.

------------------

You know, the more I look at this, the more I start to become concerned. Will most Keenspace comics even have a chance without campaigning? I mean, some of the "big" 'space comics will certainly be in the running -- BoxJam's Doodle, for example, will be (in my opinion) a virtual cinch for Best Minimalist Comic, or at least a nomination -- but for some of us who just started, getting notice may be tough.
I was kind of hoping that I wouldn't have to advertise for myself -- I was going to root for other comics I really like -- but my ego won't let me rest. Heh.
So -- check out Vicious Lies! Read the archives! Consider it for Best Reality-Based Comic, or Best "Other Genre" Comic, or even a character nod for Dave or Ann or Jackson the Yorkie! There are 15 comics up as of this morning (last Saturday through today aren't up yet, due to many problems I won't tell you about), and the front page is about to have its text updated... so check it out often to see what's new! And get out the vote!
--Strange/Dave
------------------

Heh I'm pretty sure I have too young a comic to be nominated too, but I like the idea of these awards and I'll be around next year *maniacal laughter*
:P
