views.<P>Did that happen to anyone else?<P>------------------

Yeah, Keenspace was down for a while yesterday. Actually, I think it had something to do with thekeenspace urls. I noticed that later in the day, the spacers with their own domain names still had accessible pages. Basically your pageviews, Boxjam, were just for <A HREF="http://www.boxjamsdoodle.com" TARGET=_blank>www.boxjamsdoodle.com</A>
and I got a few hits for my new domain. It sucked. Is it becoming a weekly thing that keenspace breaks down?<P>Pauly<P>------------------

Jeez, no one reads the egroup? Taht's where all the info happens. Hang on, I'll dig up Gav's response: <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>
<P>Okay, let me first say "AUGH!" and get it out of my system.<P>I'm really really sorry, everyone, for the problems we had this morning.
What happened was our webhost called me early in the morning, when I was
asleep, and said for "security reasons" that he needed to path our domain
name server. If I had been thinking clearly, I wouldn't have allowed
him. I would have splashed some water on my face, asked him for the
patch, and done it myself. Instead, I let him in and he @#%*ed up
everything. He installed the new "bind" program WITHOUT backing up the
old one, and then went on his merry way without testing it or anything.
I got a call from Teri later, explaining the problem, and I've been
spending the rest of the day trying to undo the damage this guy caused.
Our setup has simply become way too complex for outsiders to try to
change.<P>From now on, no one gets to touch our server but Nate and me.<P>Anyway, I apologize that it took so long. Apparently, new versions of the
domain name server are LESS robust than old versions. We had a few small
errors here and there that the old version was ignoring, but the new
version was totally bricking on. Since there are some 700+ Keenspace
accounts, this made it rather cumbersome to track down and fix all these
problems.<P>I believe we are up and operating once again.<P>It's best to follow up bad news with good, so I'd like to take this
opportunity to inform you all that we'll be adding a new server soon.
It will take some time to set up, but after a lot of work, we should
be able to offer greater stability in the form of both additional
computer power, but more importantly, redundancy. So if something goes
wrong with one computer, the other will take over. Please be patient
with us during this expansion process. Thank you. <P>And let me know if you still have trouble accessing any sites in
particular. If you are still having trouble with all Keenspace domains,
give it some time before contacting me. It can take some time for
different computers across the internet to update their local name servers
to reflect the fixes we made.<P>--

Yeah, I read that from Gav, but as far as I
knew, my site wasn't down.<P>Pauly has shown me one error, though -
boxjamsdoodle.com was up,
boxjam.keenspace.com was down.<P>According to my stats, though, the vast
majority of my hits, in general, are to
boxjamsdoodle.com.<P>So I'm still puzzled. Maybe I just suck, and
everybody realized it at the same time.

Mine were below average (after all the extra effort I'd spent on my <A HREF="http://www.rocr.net/d/20010214.html" TARGET=_blank>Valentine's Day Strip</A>, boo-hoo), but not disastrous. They would have been good for a Sunday.<P><P>------------------

Yeah I noticed that Keen was down, heck everytime they are down I get about 20 e-mails from my readers giving me a heads up. I inform them that it is a free server, so I'm not complaining, but I tell them that Keen hosts a ton of strips, so sometimes things get askew. This wasn't the case here. In defense of Keen, at least it's only screwed for like an hour or so.- If ti were down for a few days or like a week, that would just ruin it for me.- I think to make it up to us, they ought to Spot Gravity <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/wink.gif">-- oh and that BoxJam fella.<P>------------------

Mine were down from a couple weeks ago but the same within the past couple days.<P>I know that I, for one, couldn't get to boxjam.keenspace.com and wasn't aware of boxjamsdoodle.com two days ago, but I read quite a few yesterday... And if you're still having a "low day..."<P>::eyes get wide::<P>We're not talking about the same numbers here, are we?<P>::laughs::<P>I'm sure it was the server trouble.<P>Don't you all hate me for double spacing manually?<P>------------------

Scott, that post was also on the help forum from when the site went down the other day, it went down again yesterday too.<P>My stats were way up yesterday, but it looks like the monthly spike I have. They'll probably be back to normal tomorrow, but here's hoping. <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.gif"> <P>------------------

OK, so I've just taken another look, and over the entire week, stats were down, with the predictable low point being Friday.<P>It will be interesting to see if and how quickly we will recover...
