That is a nice megapost, McDuffies.

I don't know whether to be more insulted by the implication that I'm incredibly predictable, or by the fact that you doubted I'd heard it. :P

Seriously though, an early version has been up on Daytrotter for ages (and there's a Black Cab session of another one of the songs), but it was still a nice surprise to see the album version of the track pop up. I didn't want to bring it up first, lest I be labeled a fangirl, but since it's already obvious... I have to be in Montreal at some point this summer for registration, and you can bet I'm going to try to swing it so that I "just happen" to be there when they stop by on the North American stretch of their tour so that I can jump up onto the stage and beg Spencer to make awkward love to me in spite of that idiotic hipster mustache of his see them live and get some overpriced swag.

Which is your favourite album, incidentally?

Is "Like a Prayer" by Madonna about sex? O_o My boss was listening to it and I was like...I don't think she's actually talking about praying to God. What a slutty song hahaha.
There was a comedy routine once with the lyrics "I'm down on my knees because I like it there" complete with pelvic thrusts. I think the singer in question agrees with your interpretation... I think it was that "history of dance" guy.
I like it when guys do 80's Madonna covers. Its this sick fascination of mine.

Good topic.

I'm having trouble drawing the line between 80's and 90's, or where megajams such as Like A Prayer or Express Yourself fall. That aside, I've found the Erotica/Secret/Bedtime Stories to be quite underrated, and I'd probably put 90's Madonna on top. 00's were the weakest, true, but there's still some great stuff, regardless of what happened last year.

It's been kind of easy to take Madonna for granted, but she kicked a whole lot of ass for a whole lot of time.

Haha, didn't mean to insult. As I'm sure is clear to everyone in this thread, bubbling under every music post I make is the pathetic borderline-creepy adoration for the performer responsible for the work, who no doubt is an attractive young woman. Can't wait to tell you about the new PJ Harvey record!

To be honest I'm not all that well versed in Mr. Krug's solo work. I hear a song or two from a dude I know who shares your desire to make fierce love to Krug admiration for Krug's talents. But Idiot Heart is fantastic enough for me to dig deepeer.

so I got this GIGANTIC depeche mode box set, for Sounds of the universe. when I heard about it I though... okay three CDs. I come out with a box as large as a record and about twelve inches deep. I'm a little over whelmed by all the stuff. even for the amount I paid, it was well worth it. I also picked up the Seabound Rarities release and also used copies of Mogwai's Mr. Beast, The Dears- Gang of losers, and and Inner Party Systems debute.

been a while since I've taken eight records in one setting. and I probably shouldn't have.. but hell I been good and haven't bought much music at all in quite sometime.

Hah. Yeahduff, I have been listening to Ourself Beside Me lately; it is a psychedelic/kinda noise-y Chinese band consisting of several cute girls. Perhaps you would like them, dohoho. (But seriously, they're kinda neat.)

Pitchfork gave the track a 6! A SIX. There's no justice.

Anyway, definitely get Random Spirit Lover or the self-titled EP -- they're the most accessible albums, I think. (True story: I had to analyze a song using a formalist approach for my senior theory course and I totally used "The Taming of the Hands That Came Back to Life." It was well-received, which only heightened my appreciation of the band, haha.) I started out with the very first one (Snake's Got a Leg) and was, frankly, nearly turned right off. Review copies of Dragonslayer have apparently already gone out, so a leak is only a matter of time; I will probably hold off for a few days out of guilt before caving in, downloading the thing, and obsessing over it. (I was just kidding about the being-insulted thing ... although I do sometimes feel like a comically predictable person in terms of my tastes but also in the way that everyone knows that if I like something I am going to fangirl over it hard.)

And phact, what did you think of that Dears album? I revisited them recently and found that fond associated memories were the only thing keeping me from finding them to be just another bland Canadian indie rock band. I've never heard their first album, though; maybe it's really good and would explain their continuing popularity.

The Gang of Losers is quite different. Its a very stripped down sound, I really dig it. It seems to draw influence from two of my favourites, Dinosaur Jr. and early morrissey. That being said I'd avoided picking it up for a while because I know its HATED by the fans. But I now hate myself I wasn't enjoying this years ago. Its easily my favourite of anything they've ever done. But that being said, I can understand why people might not like it so well. its not very much of a pop or a rock album, its more of a Folk sounding thing.

I don't know. It didn't feel like she was TRYING to make an image. It was just her image. I love that about ANY artist.

The Lords of the New Church covering "Like a Virgin" was certainly funny.

Mmmmm, Chinese girls and Canadian proggy indie pop. I have much to study.

Hm, don't know about that. Madonna's way too smart to not know what she's doing as she's rolling around the MTV stage singing Like A Virgin.

Speaking of Madonna covers, The Tamperer's "If You Buy This Record Your Life Will Be Better" lifts both its rhythm and melody hook from "Material Girl" - it's pop trash at its least creative, but dang if it isn't catchy, even more so than Madonna's original song. It's one of those "I'm almost ashamed I'm listening to this" things...

I think I mentioned it earlier, I've only listened to Dears' Missiles, found it cool and OK-computer-y, which can be a plus or a minus for them, but in any case pulling such rich sound isn't an easy task.

I'm listening to Gaby La La, she's cool and should make another record. Oh and also Spoon.

Thing about the dears is every album tends to have a different sound as they've had to replace the entire band a few times.

and I note that no one is at all interested in how the new Depeche Mode record sounds... fine I won't tell you!

No, I just recently saw "The Man Who Fell to Earth" for the first time, and I'm on a kick. I've gone through this every couple of years or so since I was 13 - he'll always be my first love.
