Why Shonen-ai (Boys Love) and Yaoi (hardcore boy's love)???

For discussions, announcements, non-technical questions and anything else comics-related or otherwise that doesn't fit in any of the other categories.

Anywhoo~oo... we can only offer our own personal opinions, as we don't assume to speak for the entire man-love-loving populace...

There's just something alluring about it. It might be that it's "taboo," it might be that it's guys acting in a non-stereotypically "guy" sort of way, it might be that BL boys tend to be really hot, it might be that it focuses more on love than sex, it might be that we're just crazy. It could be any number of things. We don't really know. As RPin said, there's no good way to explain a fetish. And as our friend Lynn once said, "You can't control what makes your hoo-hoo tingle."

The Neko wrote: They're handsome, intelligent, and sensitive men that THEY'LL NEVER HAVE.
As for this- the same goes for any fictional character/porn actor, doesn't it? Also, considering we're lesbians, we don't want to have them anyway. It's just fun to watch, that's all.

On that note... why are the girly-boy anime men considered hot? I mean, take any guy in real life, give them the feminine looks, and they generally turn out to be the creepy looking, home schooled "in that way" kind of kids.

Actually I remember a Discovery Channel sex-and-attraction documentary saying that women are often attracted to what are technically feminine features (as in facial-bone-proportion, not as in, say, breasts). How true that is or isn't I have no way of telling.

hmm...

it seems in the US, beauty is associated with women...

but in Korea (and probably in Japan and china too), being beautiful is is not an element bound by gender, but by youth. An idealized youth (teenager or late teenager) is beautiful. Long legs, long neck, slender fingers and waist, stylish hair -- these are expected for any teenager who wants to consider himself or herself an "ideal" youth.

I think this obsession for youth runs parallel with white america's obsession with tanning, shaving, and showering. White America for the most part is obsessed with not smelling like a person (gotta smell like a fruit or a flower or Calvin Klein), looking "bronze" and looking "clean."

Asian kids on the other hand want white as possible skin and be skinny as possible (good body == good self control) and as tall as possible.

Fortunately, the age of the sissyfied metrosexual is coming to a close, and the age of the hairy, caveman-like retrosexual is dawning.

Yaoi never appealed to me because Real Men have body hair. :)

(...and I have enough body hair for three or four Real Men...)

Retrosexual? Is there a comittee that makes stuff up and tells people it's popular? Like how blondes are out and burnettes are in? I can't take this anymore— I'm going to Starbucks.

Like Kodama said, I always thought beauty and attraction was in youth rather than specifically feminising, if youth looks girly, then so be it.

As for what makes girly or manly, in Malaysia I'd be called a sissy boy for all the sweets I chomp on. Why should such a thing be girly? I have no idea. Much the same I have no idea why men aren't to ride (more practical) ladies bikes in the UK.

Sex eh.

i could just never figure out why men's bicycles were the ones that HAD a horizontal bar in just the right position to cause serious damage should an accident occur.
