I wish that I had the skill and confidence to draw my comics myself so I could update regularly. My artist's highschool Advanced-Placement classes keep getting in the way.
She's way too busy for the comic a lot.

Thanks for the advice!Dutch! wrote:JTigerclaw wrote: I want to be able to make the readers care about the characters, even though it's just a dumb comedy.
Make the story character driven over generally random jokes and humour. It's one thing I think I've succeeded with. Once readers get past the innocence of sort of childish naivety of the setting and whatnot, generally they read along because of the characters.
Now to get them to just see past the innocence and childish naivety...
And comedy shouldn't be dumb!
Cheers.
That is the way I will be going eventually, I just need to figure out the most effective way to execute it. The characters are going to be a big part of my story someday.
Oh and I thought of another thing. I wish I could go back and change the main characters' names (and maybe change their species to something I like more). I wonder if having a really plain name makes a character easier to forget...
In any comic with more than four characters, I generally don't remember ANY names.
... your goat character, for example, exists in my head as "The goat-jesus guy"

Oh RLY?
...I guess my fight is a futile one then.
Well, at least you remember him as something. If I read a comic, I try to learn the names so I can place them to a character's face when I see it, and know who the other characters are talking about. Then again, sometimes it's not all that important.

Not to sound egotistical or anything...but there's not really anything I hate about it. I like my comic quite a bit and as a whole am quite satisfied with it...although there's of course always room for improvement.
There are a small handful of comics in the archives that I don't really like much...that I wouldn't mind making disappear, but meh...it doesn't really bother me much. One man's trash is another's treasure. I've had people send me fanmail and mention how much they liked a specific comic that I didn't particularly care for myself...so you never know what's going to appeal to whom.

...yeah.
But by "proportions" I meant more like when someone's arms turn out freakishly long (or short), or their head is much to big, etc.
I'm not as bad with that as I used to be but I still have troubles with it.

I would change the font in the first few pages, and I'd make it so the backgrounds, especially a certin kitchen, look more natural.

I think if I drew my comic again, there would be a lot of things I would do differently.
One of them is the way I drew the pages--I started it after I got my wacom tablet, and I did a lot of the stuff purely with the tablet. However, I eventually learned that my layouts are a lot better when I work with actual paper and a pencil first, then ink over it with the tablet. In one comic I drew with just the tablet (for example), everything started really small, but then got bigger, and bigger, and bigger as I drew down the page. If I started drawing a comic again, I'd do most of the stuff that way.
Another is how I wrote things. When doing my comic, I ended up doing a lot of one-page jokes that maybe weren't even jokes (My sense of humor doesn't really have solid punch-lines anyway, but some of these were so weak they didn't exist), but they had timing and a silly situation, and sometimes I wasn't really satisfied with it but I had a schedule to keep so I posted it anyway... (I was able to get class credit for it in high school, but one of the stipulations was that I stay on schedule--even my sad sad one-week schedule). I think if I did it again I would a) only post comics when I came up with a good idea and then drew them *right* (versus coming up with something over the week and scrambling to get shit done), and I think I would also try doing more multi-page arcs--possibly have more recurring characters. I think I'd like to do more sci-fi type stuff, too.
Really, though, my comic was a good learning experience, and I'm not sure that I'd want to necessarily go back and change it because it was FROM my comic that I learned what I would do differently. Does that make sense? I'm not sure.

I wish I could actually SEE my spelling errors. My brain just doesn't register them.
I wish I could draw buildings and backgrounds.
I wish I could actually DRAW. I don't like a lot of my artwork. A lot of time I like it, but a lot of the time I go back and just look at it and thing "man, that sucked."
