If you don't both hate and love your own art at the same time, then you'll never get anywhere in this or any other artistic business.

My own comic's relatively new, with only about 9 strips up. But I still find them hilarious, and re-read them whenever I need a pick-me-up. Not quite as funny as when I first conceived of the jokes, but at least they evoke a smile.

Of course, I'm already noting major changes in the look of Popsicleman between strip #1 and, say, strip #14 which I'm currently drawing. He was a particularly hard character to hammer down visually, because his proportions are so odd. So, even this early in the game, my 'early' stuff looks really off.

Love it too much and you'll get careless.
Hate it too much and you'll never finish anything.
It is about balance.

What if I do a gag strip and I hate my joke? While I'm drawing it?

Sometimes I read of some famous artists and whatnot gleefully hating and trashing their work. It gets to the point where every interview they have, they always having negative things to say about their comic. They say things like "I don't know why everyone love this crap I draw", or "My art is $&#&% trash, I hate it so much".

I often wonder how they get through the day saying those things about their art. Do they kill defenseless kittens everytime they look at their past work? I think there's a line to hating your artwork. I "hate" my artwork only because I want to improve and I am constantly striving to improve. But negative artists like those, why are they even artists if they hate what they do. Sometimes I think they say those things about their work in order to garner attention to themselves.

I'm not saying anyone in this thread is like the artist I described, you guys are way different from those guys. I was just reminded of those artists.

I like my new art. I appreciate my old art for its humbling effect. :)

On the one hand, that's good, because at least someone enjoys it, but at the same time... I thought of all the jokes; they should be old... yet I still laugh. Huh. So yeah, do you guys enjoy re/reading your own comic?

Meh. I get a bigger kick out of seeing how my art has improved like 50 fold. However, yeah, there are some comics that I still just can't help laughing at when I read them.

And also most of my comics are based on stuff that happened in real life (usually drunk  ) so its like a little archive of what I've accomplished, lol.

Which is surprisingly little.

Yeah, lol. It started off with just this Dilbert look alike called Killbert. But I've had to make some other characters to avoid copyright, lol.

there's a difference between normal and small.

for example, a normal penis is 6 inches long and a small penis is 4 1/2 inches long.
