I really creeped myself out drawing a free association comic once. I was amazed that I could draw some of that creepy stuff...
And then there was that free association comic where, a month after I drew it at 2am, I realized the characters were really graphical representations of portions of my own psyche.
Gee, it seems like whenever I free associate I creep myself out...

In one of my future webcomic ideas, I've got this superspeedster superhero called Surge. His civilian identity is public and it's generally known that he's got a wife and a kid. I intended to mention at least once during the comic's run that only one person ever dared to try and use his family against him . . . not a single villain was depraved or masochistic enough to try afterwards. I hadn't intended, however, to actually describe what Surge did to the fellah in that single case . . . but I decided to imagine what it was anyway one day, just for kicks.
I was actually fine with most of it, but there were a couple parts that made me glad I'd decided not to actually describe it in detail in the comic itself.

Existence is a series of catastrophes through which everything barely but continually survives.

That's a really effective tool. Kind of like the noodles or salamander incident in Calvin and Hobbes, a huge chunk of Lovecraft's stories, or one of the basic principles of horror - let the audience imagine what it is, as it will uite possibly be worse then what you can come up with, and it will be specific to each person, thus making the horror much more personal.Jim North wrote:...I hadn't intended, however, to actually describe what Surge did to the fellah in that single case...
As for creeping myself out, this past month of my life has kind of sucked, and I've said things. Things that would have grossed myself out a year ago. Things that have prompted cries of "WHAT THE F**K IS WRONG WITH YOU?" from those around me.

People's imagination is ALWAYS worse than actually showing what something really is.
(BOOK RANT ALERT!)
Like in this "horror" novel I recently read...one in a sort-of series by Lincolen Child and Dougles Preston. The previous novel had one of the characters ranting about his brother comitting the "Crime of the Century", and kept going on and on about "A Crime of Horrors the Likes of Which the World Has Never Seen!!!!" (Insert dramatic "Duh Duh Duh DAAA!" music here). And I was imagining holocaust-type events...
and then I read the next book.
It was a FREAKING DIAMOND ROBBERY! I came up with far worse crimes on my own. (/book rant)

Have I ever creeped myself out?
Oh yeah...definitely. A couple chapters back...one of the protagonists had one of her enemies in a fresh dug grave and was going to bury her alive. Most of what I put together for the section was written when I was kinda in the "zone" at the time...and seemed to me to be a little too close to the way I would have handled the situation for my taste.
