I find it easier to avoid that can of worms altogether by chasing after skirts instead.

I watched this a few months ago: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/sex/index.html

and they showed a study where women who are ovulating were more attracted to men with angular faces, more chiseled bodies and uber-masculine traits. When they were not ovulating, they are more attracted to men who look like "nice guys"-- rounder faces, gentler features. The basic theory was that women want to breed strong babies, but have a nice guy help raise them.
