How was your first day?
Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
Yes making comics to build up a buffer (hah!) and building and rebuilding the web site
Did you remember having any problems?
I did accidentally messed up the public workspace and prevented archive pages from being generated. STrRedWolf fixed it for me.
How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
Searching for comics on the web
Who were your idols?
I don't really have any web comic idols yet, but I have a few I like to read. Out There, Real Life, Perry Bible Fellowship, Sinfest, Copper, to name a few. My Idols are the standard ones. Herriman, Watterson, Schulz, and Kelly.
Did you have any friends who helped you?
Nope. The biggest hurdle was remembering how to draw with pen and ink after all my years of computer only work.
How did your comic do at first?
Very slow at first. Only 108 visits the first month and then it went down. Slow increases until I got a nice comment from Starline on Candicomics.com, then a BIG bump up and slow increases since.
Anything Else?
It's been almost a year and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. At least the characters are filling out (to me at least)

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
It was actually just over a year. We started on April Fool's day, though I was getting used to the whole process for about a week before that. My first post outside of the help forums was to add something to a thread about whether to write for the audience or one's self (Can you tell someone was set on not having his first posts be an introduction?). And I've been infrequently posting since.
Did you remember having any problems?
Lived in the Help Forum for a while. Most of it was minor tweaking or me wanting to something well beyond my coding capabilities.
How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
Well, I'd known Al-X from Nahast: Lands of Strife before he took up the webcomic'ing thing. So when Miss Mel and I decided to finally do the comic we'd been talking about for years, I asked Al-X if he recommended CG. And he did.
Who were your idols?
I didn't know the people from the forums at all. But, the two comics on CG I read in depth from my first week on CG were Al-X's and Humbug's.
Did you have any friends who helped you?
Only in that they were our only readers at the start.
How did your comic do at first?
In terms of readers? Well enough since we weren't actively soliciting more. There were some rough patches relating to some feedback that still hanging around, but all in all, it has been relatively positive.
In terms of the comic itself, if given the opportunity I might change the pacing. And make Gektar slightly more readable.

There were a few problems, mainly I didn't unsderstand what the heck I was getting into.
I found Keenspace through Wapsi Square (or should I say I found KeeSpot and in turn found KeenSpace
Paul Taylor. 'nuff said.
I certainly made alot of friends through this and there were many who supported me and helped me with all sorts of technical carp, (alot of them still do)
My comic was an instant classic spawning several books, 3 movie deals, an ABC after-school special (as well as several syndicated television shows), a metric ton of McDonalds toys, "Ded End: The Bloodening" (available on XBox, Playstation, and Nintendo platforms), and a partridge in a pear tree
Only three things are square, and that's cheese, plates, and bears

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
I just remember signing up around the middle of 2001, posting comics, and my atrocious webdesign.
Did you remember having any problems?
Only when the server went down, and trying to keep up with the schedule I was on.
How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
Through a Yahoo! Group for cartoonists. I remember clicking on the link in someone's sig and it took me to their comic. I joined their messageboard (which was on ezBoard when ezBoard was cool). At the time, the comic I had going was hosted on Geocities, and the guy reccomended I drop Geocities and join Keenspace. And the rest is history.
Who were your idols?
JW Cornelius, the guy from the previous question. Other than getting me onto Keenspace, imitating his drawing style as best I could and trying to blend it in with mine helped out a lot. Hell, one of the characters in my comic is named after him.
Did you have any friends who helped you?
Same as above.
How did your comic do at first?
I honestly don't know. I got e-mails of praise from time to time, but I was more concerned with writing my comic than how many visitors I was getting. I figured if I built it, they would eventually come.
Anything else?
Sally Acorn is f'n hot.

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
Uhm... not really. Its a big blur of building a buffer, signing up, and figuring out how to build a website with tags.
Did you remember having any problems?
Not with Keenspace.
How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
Ages and Ages ago. I used to think Keenspace and Keenspot where the same entity and it took me a while to realize it wasn't. It would be a few years before I decided to use it to host a comic.
Who were your idols?
At the time, mostly David Willis from It's Walky. Wapsi Square was a big one too.
Did you have any friends who helped you?
When it came to technical stuff, my buddy Davel helped a lot. Otherwise the IW! boardies were a great support group.
How did your comic do at first?
Slow and steady increase from the get-go. Then I started to take out ads and that helped the most.
Anything Else?
I wish I had more time to hang out in the CG forums more.

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace? I remember searching the help forums a lot....then reading all of the stickies at the top about "how not to be an ass"...my first posts were really bland...but that's o.k.
Did you remember having any problems? nah....everyone's been really nice to me. I do remember some forum drama that was going on at the time I joined and I think it made me more cautious-- I didnt want to be like the person that was causing problems.... (so now I make trouble in all new and improved ways)
How did you first find CG/Keenspace? I've read Clan of the Cats for years...finally decided I'd just jump in and do my own comic.
Who were your idols? I've always admired Jamie from COTC and Reinder of ROCR. Other than that...I really don't idolize anyone....except maybe Hogan...and that's because he works his tushie off for the community.
Did you have any friends who helped you? I think time, experience and experimentation has helped more than anything. I read Joel's advise website a few times (I have to read something twice to memorize anything) and a few others...they were more help than anything.
How did your comic do at first? I think it did great. By the fourth month I regularly had 250 unique readers a day. It's only gotten better since then.
Anything else? I think the other thing that has really helped me out is being in IRC #keenspace I have met some wonderful people and gotten some wonderful advise. It's the small questions that get answered...the little encouragements...the "hey, that looks good but if you do this, it would be better" kinds of things. The folks I've become close to-- you all know who you are, and I wuves you. *kissy kissy kissy*

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
Sorta, I came in on the help forums, and sorta just started blendind in with the rest.
Did you remember having any problems?
Only problem I had was making a site. I was like, HTM what?
How did you first find CG/Keenspace? A friend got me into webcomics. Started on venusenvy. Wasn't really my type of comic, so I came looking for others to read. This was way before I even thought about drawing a comic.
Who were your idols?
Merc and Sparrow. They were lots of help, and they scared me too.
How did your comic do at first?
I..... I don't wanna talk about it. *sniff*
Anything else?
I love you guys!

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
Still in them I guess, coming up to one month now
Did you remember having any problems?
Not really, had a bit of trouble getting a good looking html page, but other than that it's been problem-free.
How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
Back when Real Life was a keenspot comic I followed the link in the top right and found out about keenspace. Although at that time I didn't have any comic ideas
Who were your idols?
Don't really have any yet
Did you have any friends who helped you?
See above, but its partly my fault for being a major lurker
How did your comic do at first?
No idea, but as at the time of posting I only have two pages up I dont think I could answer
Anything else?
I don't know why but this little guy -->

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
Yes, I was under the magic spell of free webcomic hosting. I felt like a kid in a candy store!
Did you remember having any problems?
Just my impatience to get started. I should have made a buffer first.
How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
Big Brother Google, of course.
Who were your idols?
Bill Watterson, Frank Miller, John Romita Jr.
Did you have any friends who helped you?
Not really. I started making some toons on my blog and a commenter directed me to Penny Arcade and PVP. It opened up a whole new world to me.
How did your comic do at first?
Six unique visitors my first month! Woo hoo! And I was actually excited.

1. My first day was not very long ago, so it's fairly fresh in my mind.Tarts wrote:Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?

2. I had some trouble at first getting everything to update, and my comic is still having some technical issues. Still, the comics appear approximately when I want them to.
3. Through Nukees. I knew there was some way to host webcomics related to Keenspot, so when I made it my New Year's Resolution for 2007 to finally learn to draw (and do a comic), I immediately looked into hosting it on Keenspace, which I then learned was called ComicGenesis.
4. The usual suspects. Pete Abrams, Maritza Campos, and Darren Bleuel.
5. Not really.
6. The quality of my comic has improved quite a bit in the last month, but I still have no readers. I'm not ready to post it on the "pimp my comic" board until some of the more interesting plot developments happen later in the first chapter.
7. I greatly appreciate some of the tutorials linked to from these boards. My art is still far from good, but it has gotten much better recently, and my girlfriend even says I have my own unique style now.
<a href="http://liddell.comicgenesis.com">Liddell</a>, my comic, wherein one learns of the Cauchy-Shorts Inequality.

. You're obviously new... I do nothing BUT tease.
