So has anyone ever gotten an artist to work for free?

For discussions, announcements, non-technical questions and anything else comics-related or otherwise that doesn't fit in any of the other categories.

I must say I envy the Writer/artist team up or any division of labor team up. It is often lonely making a web comic and another point of view would be nice. But does seem like you need to know the other person very well for it to fly because when you multiply the people you multiply the irresponsibly.

I think I would be more excited by the team up thing if I had a say in the story. So often people are looking for art monkeys who will just draw what they say. They have their ideas and they want the artist just to draw it with out any backtalk. If someone posted “looking for a co-writer and artist” I would be a lot more jazzed about the idea.

However that post has some problems as well. There are two unpleasant parts of making a comic; the writing and the drawing. Writing can be divided up but drawing not so much. I suppose you could get one person to pen and paper draw and another do the digital coloring and assembly. Still you would really have to be on the same wavelength humor/story wise for this to work.

New point of view? Derenge and I, and Lego if I'm not mistaken, were taking bets months and months and months ago about when Digital War would be discontinued and become Digital Porn.

So far we've got half of it right, and then he went on that Darken/Boobies spree. But then it stopped. T_T
Caught in the headlamp glare of your own blinding vanity/Mesmerised by the stare of your shallow personality
Gorging the junk food of flattery you drag your fat ego around/Everyone floored by the battering you give to whoever's around
Oh Narcissus you petulant child admiring yourself in the curve of my eyes/Oh Narcissus you angel beguiled unsated by self you do nothing but die

When my comic started, initial feedback from a couple of people told me to find an artist to do my comic with. I considered it, but decided against not to for a number of reasons:

- I'm too much of a perfectionist-I'd want it drawn exactly the way I pictured it in my head, and I figured it would just be better to do it myself to the best of my ability rather than fight with an artist over how I wanted it done

- I'm not that bad an artist-I could see if I were drawing stick figures with capes or something, but I'm nowhere near that bad, just need some improvement in my anatomy and shading and action poses...

- I really don't think I could afford a decent artist anyway, and I doubt I could find a decent artist to work with me for free, since I don't know anyone with that kind of skill (who isn't already working on their own comic, that is)

- one of my objectives in drawing a webcomic is to improve my artistic skills. How better than to draw a webcomic that comes out a couple or more times a week? Look at one of the longer-running webcomics on the web-Schlock Mercenary. Look at the art on the first week of comics, then look at the art on his latest week. That's the kind of improvement five or so years of daily work on a webcomic will do for you. That inspires me, and I hope to have similar improvement over time.

I think the only way I'd seriously consider looking for an artist is if I were completely unable to draw any more pages, either for health or scheduling reasons, but still really wanted to continue the story.

I so want to steal your idea about stealing ideas.
By all means go ahead.
By the way, folks -- this newbie is *mine*. She has a 'get out of The Box free' ticket, and a 'One mauling from Remus to whoever is mean to her' coupon.
Yep. Prospects of being mauled by Remus oughta scare them enough.

Well, one could ink, and the other pencil. Or, one could draw and the other one colour. Perhaps, to non-artistic writers it'd be easier to find an artist if they were to take colouring part on themselves.

That'd never happen, there's only two girls in his comic and he's long since forgotten about them.
