So, KeenSPACE is getting a name change on Monday.

For discussions, announcements, non-technical questions and anything else comics-related or otherwise that doesn't fit in any of the other categories.

I'm annoyed, mostly because I feel like Ghastly does above- It's another way to dissasociate the "us" and the "them", which is a shame, as the illusion of a big happy family drawn together because of their desire to make a webcomic is nice. But hey, whatever.
I'm also annoyed that we found this out through a bloody comment on websnark! Sure, you've been proposing this for a while, but now you have a date on it and all, the least you could have done is tell us. Fine, we're only customers, but if you offer a service, then you've offering at least some small duty to your customers. You wouldn't change someone's telephone number without telling them.

I see. Well, I guess until I get off my arse and pay my own hosting, I can't complain too much. And the old urls will still work, so that negates my largest concerns.

Does anybody actually know for sure that we'll be able to use the new name on samplers and the like? That alone would make the namechange a positive thing in my book, since to be honest, the old rule annoyed the hell out of me. We identify as Spacers, so it's more than a little weird not to be able to use the name for anything we do together.

It's been in the works for quite a while, apparently. I'm still not convinced that the name change is a Good Thing, but at least the uncertainty will soon be over. And if we do get to use the name in our common projects, then there is at least some benefit from all the bother.

"<TBA>, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship..."
This webcomic, seen here is hosted on the free web host Comic Genesis which pretty much proves its not popular.

i know this may have a positive turnout for us (see the sampler thing), but i can't help to be annoyed by this, like Ghastly and Komi.

But what pisses me off most, is the whole "customers" thing.
People here are putting effort in making keenspace a better place, not only the admins, but i'm counting what's done by Phalanx on the gear, RPin's site design, the keenspace newsletter, Faub's sampler project...
C'mon, there's a lot that has been done FOR keenspace other than merely using the service. I think we deserve a lil more consideration than just "customers".

Really, i'm so going to virtually stick the barrel of a 12 gauge shotgun stuck up the ass of the next one who comes out with "keenspacers are just customers" and then pull the trigger.

The customer was a comment from Josh Lesnick. I have no idea if the Fab Four agrees, but given the recent developments upon this name changing...

I'd rather not change the name, but it's not my company to decide. If that will help them getting some more brand recognition, then so be it. I wish them luck.

People, calm down. Let's wait till the change actually happens before we start worrying about the logos and frontpage and all that. We've gotten through the last few years, I think we should be able to handle some change too.

I, for one, will be relieved not to have Keenspace yelled at over Keenspot's Newsbox Policies (which actually did happen during the gay newsbox debacle). The brand confusion thing works both ways, you know.

Oh, And I propose keeping RPin's logo, regardless of whatever we get renamed to. It rocks, and The K can be there for historical reasons ;)

I agree, that logo MUST stay up, whatever the name is going to be.

Why not renovate the name AND profit from the name of another age old company to bring in more visitors?

I bring to you: Kellogg's Space!

People who pay then get the reduced version of KSpace without banners and alike, you know like a slimmed down version, we could call it Special K Space.

Brilliant.

I just realized that when they change the name, I will still have the only deck of KeenCards in existance. And it will be worth millions. I'll be famous! I can have a limo drop me off at the grocery store!

Actually, this means I'll have to wait 'till everyone updates their cards and the background, get a new pdf, and do the whole print and cut thing all over again. *grumble*

My only beef is that we found out about it via someone's observation on websnark, and not through even something simple as an announcement on the Yahoo Admin group.

I'm afraid the graphic designer in me is flinching a little there. A logo should be relevant and unless this new name starts with a K...

It's a bit like David Willis starting Shortpacked but keeping the It's Walky website. Less so, of course, but you always have to exagerate comparisons like this. I think it's a rule.

That comment on the websnark post was more of an info-leak because someone brought the topic up than an official announcement. Note that they said the official announcement was going to be made, so they were going to tell us (and the rest of the world) officially, but we got wind of it faster than they could tell us.

Partially my fault, I'm afraid. I was so bambozzled when I heard about it on websnark I posted on the forum without thinking, because it was obviously such important news to us and I had no idea people were going to get this negative mis-impression that they were never going to bother to tell us offically.

Honestly though, I don't think anyone would be THAT silly not to tell the people in question they were going to be renamed.

I dunno about that, Joel. Seems to me a logo is more of a graphical symbol of what it represents. Rpin's star logo is more or less regarded as our emblem, whatever we may be called. Seems silly to change it unless we have to.

But I guess we'll find out soon enough if there's a K in the name. :(
