well actually I was speaking of unpowered super people who hung with the JLA/JSA in the comics...

as to the twinked out characters in comics. I dunno there are quite a lot of em..

Ever heard of the Phantom Stranger. this guy is so powerful that superman is scared of em... okay granted he's a master of supes other weakness.. magic.

Dr. Fate and Dr. Strange are also pretty twinked out..

lets not get into guys like wolverine and lobo. The Mighty Thor who was okay til they offed Donald Blake. Then there's guys like green lantern, who have a good weakness then they only apply it when its not a big deal. or find ways around it. like hal jordan using speed to change sinestros ring color from yellow to orange in order to win the day.

Comics is full of twinks and I could go on with characters like Resurrection Man, Lady Clea, Mordred... etc.

but I think I'm going on a tangent here.. and showing my fanboy colours.
It's that stupid munchkin effect! They create these unbeatable superheroes that neve die. It's not interesting. I mean several years ago they decided they'd kill superman, right?? I thought to myself FINALLY we're getting somewhere. What do they do? They bring the bastard back. It's not just superman but he's the worst of the lot. Superheroes are mostly invincible, not because they have rare weaknesses or anything like that but because the bastards that write them can't keep them dead.

One of the few things I really liked about FFVII was that Areis dies. She dies and you can't bring her back. It's great! Not that I didn't enjoy her as a character but because it actually meant something. I thought I was going to spend the next part of the game trying to bring her back. But you couldn't it was refreshing. It made me thnk that people could write highly dramatic video games and that square was the company to lead the pack...

And then they went and did X-2.
MixedMyth wrote:*looks sheepish* I...I liked X-2. Sure, it had a lot of stupid bits, but I thought it was fun. And I liked the Tidus ending. *continues to look sheepish. Baaa*

My major problem with a lot of the old superhero comics is that they've become so meta that it's hard to pick them up. They've been done and redone over and over, with different twists, until you get this massive tangle. It's like if a soap opera rewrote itself every season. Although I loved the Batman animated series. That rocked.

But generally, I just prefer comics that hold themselves apart from the DC or Marvel universe. Self contained comics. Like Hellboy or Red Star.

I voted for Superman not because I love him or anything, but because the thought of an icon as prolific as Superman being defeated by Ultraman is SILLY.

SILLY. SILLY. SILLY.

But Spiderman is still the best superhero.

Spider > Super > Mega > Ultra > Hyper > Goku

On a completely unrelated note, they've yet to release a fighting game aside from SF1 where Ryu is the best hands-down. In the newer games he's actually getting to be pretty bad because he never gains any new moves. Ironic coming from the king of versatility from SF2 (he might have been the best here, simply because there was no one matchup he would always lose).
Seriously though, Ryu has nothing anymore. Hadouken is a terrible projectile, he's far to vunerable after throwing it and many people can super straight through it, shoryuken has no priority, and a blocked tatsumaki sempukyaku has tons of lag and he can't trip into it like Akuma can. It's also incredibly hard to get the full strength out of Shin Shoryuken, arguably his most useful move. His roundhouse kick still rocks, though.

Ryu is more compareable to Superman on popularity, as he's one of the first names that pops to mind when people think of superheroes. However, Superman is far more overpowered. Still, Superman is a very old superhero and the fact that he was completely invincable probably seemed cool then instead of lame. We've just been exposed to too many people talking about "who would win, X or Y", so we realize how dumb his powers really are.

Superman is the Ryu of comic books. Batman is the Ken.
Batman will always always aways be cooler than superman. Always. Anybody who can hold thier own with Green Lantern, Superman, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter WITHOUT superpowers is tops in my books.
Batman not only rocks.
In that crossover book I own, Batman pretty much beats Superman.

The cartoon Batman rocks hard. (except for that really old animated series...)
But the real action Batmans suck. All of them.

KittyKatBlack wrote: No no, there are actaully quite few that reach the Ryu standard of suckage. You see, there's people that suck because they just... well, suck. And then there's people that suck because they're so overly twinked out that they just become lame. Superman is this example. He is unstoppable, except by Krytptonite. This is rare, (Supposedly) so it's not a big factor.
Yeah, I hate Superman too.
Sure he has a weakness, but it's only a weakness because he's really really stupid.
ie. he has super speed, super reflexes, and can fly at the speed of light, he often flies at superspeed doing other things, so I really can't believe scenes like this one:
superman:"haha! I caught you now"
villain:"are you sure?"
superman:"yes, I'm sure"
villain:"are you really sure?"
superman:"what's happening, I feel weak, my strenght..."
villain:"a-HA, there is kryptonite in the smoke sensor!"
superman:"oh no!" *faints* *is saved by a coincidence, friends, or villain's being even more stupid*
happen all the time.

One would think that superman could carry a geiger meter, and learn to fly out at superspeed at first signs of radiation, wear a lead suit, and come back in 0.01 second using his super speed.

Of course, that would make him really unstoppable... so maybe it would be even worse...
But I'm not sure what I hate more, over powered characters, or over powered characters that fail to utilize more than 1% of their potential, due to terminal idiocy.

yeah, back then invincible was "cool", now it it is "just ridiculous", there is no such thing as unstoppable force, and there is no immovable object. And we know that now.
But think of the people back then as of kids.
They were still on the level of "OMG, his power level is 10000 how will they beat him! OMG OMG!"
You are the Non. You must go now, and never return."

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

I like your taste in games, Kitty. :D MvC2 rocks.
Still, Marvel vs Capcom 2 has Cable and Sentinel, both of whom are far more overpowered than Ryu ever will be. I didn't use him much, but I know he can't transform into Ken or Akuma any more, so he's probably not as good as he was in the original Marvel vs Capcom.

I have no problems with hardly any characters in the game (Except Blackheart, sometimes) except Ryu. The sentinal is so big and slow that his overwhelming power is easily countered. And cable really isn't that much different than your standard fighter. In fact, he's pretty slow too.

Ryu, however, is extremely fast, can pretty much put himself anywhere on the screen at any time. His fireball ability is the oldest and most well-known move in fighting game history, which makes it easy for most people to use it repeatedly over and over and over...

And I don't care what the hell games you're playing, but NOTHING breaks through his dragon uppercut, or that hurricane kick. NOTHING. I've been knocked OUT OF A SPECIAL MOVE by it.

Spiderman is the coolest superhero as far as concepts go, totally. But the spiderman comics are pretty lame, because the writers suck. The number one superhero, when it comes to a good COMIC and not just a good CHARACTER, is sadly enough the lamest of all superheroes - The Phantom. As far as I understand he's even fairly unknown in the English-speaking countries, but he's big in Sweden ;)
