I sold my wacom tablet to my sister for $100. I kinda feel bad for taking that much from her, but I *do* like money.

In other news, I got "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" stuck in my head.

Last summer I got my first real full time job programming, and my caffeine addiction went out of control. I was drinking roughly 4-6 20 oz bottles of mountain dew a day. I quit in August and haven't had any caffeinated beverages since, I also dropped 35 pounds by November without really changing anything else. Long story short, if I can do it so can you.

I have to drink caffeine. My doctor told me to. I went off it in my 20's and after about 8 months, started to get severe headaches on one side of my head. "Cut your teeth out with a knife" severe headaches. Turns out I suffered from Cluster headaches. Migraines are supposed to be bad, but Cluster headaches are called "suicide headaches" because that's the preferred cure people who can't stop them take.

Anyway, for a small number of sufferers, Caffeine is a cheap and easy fix. I'd been drinking it since before puberty... I'd been self-medicating. My doctor told me to drink a moderate amount of diet caffeinated drinks a day.

I stopped again in my early 30's, just to see... and about six months later they came roaring back. I've been drinking caffeine ever since.

Denial is not falsification. You can't avoid a fact just because you don't like it.

This fridge is giving me issues, and I'm not sure if its working or not. I've got it on the highest setting and its still warm inside. I'll give it the night to get its act together before I start tinkering with it. I'm not sure what I'll do if its broken since its a second-hand purchase and there's not exactly a service center here I can call.

there are many ways to get the same effect as caffeine. And yes I get them probably not as often than you, but they hit me. and they are worse than migranes cause I suffer from migraines too.

And people laugh at me when I say I have broken brain.

Hah, I don't like it when people say this

I've quit before, gone many months without it, and ended up right back again. The first time I stopped I lost 13 pounds, the second time I lost none. It's all about willpower and it's not that I think I can't do it, I wouldn't try if I thought I'd fail, I just don't think it's really going to do anything for me (outside of promoting healthier lifestyle choices)other than cost me less money from not having to buy so much damn soda.

In related news today is the first day of the no soda attempt. It's not as bad as I thought because I've already been suffering from a 4 day headache unrelated to caffeine withdrawl so when I woke up I just stayed in bed and decided today might as well be the day to start. My right eye feels like it's going to pop out of my head. Now if you'll excuse me I need to refill my huge ass water bottle.

It is a bad idea to do sprints outdoors in Iraq. My lungs now have a delightful "fumes/chemical" taste to them, which is really saying something when you can taste your lungs... yay future cancer! Next time, go to the gym and use the treadmill. Or maybe I just need to get further away from the main road. Y'know, either or.

And I am again depressed at how more moved in I am here than in Germany. I even have more furniture here now than in Germany. I am going to hit up IKEA so hard when I get back...

Hmm, desert sands, god-knows-what-kind-of-chemicals-are-still-in-the-air, and 4,000 degree heat? Yeah, running in Iraq sounds like GREAT fun!

Heh... running is the main reason I got out of the Marine Corps in the first place. Took me all of about 4 hours during bootcamp before I realized that 1) I hated hated hated hated HATED running and 2) oh crap, I joined the most running-est of the services. To this DAY I can't stand running.

If I need to get someplace fast, dammit... I'll drive. Bike. Hitchhike. Don't CARE...

Be safe over there, will ya?

Well, I was going to have an eventful day of playing "Kick that" on whatever we found laying in the street outside the main gate, and then I had a game of "Heads Up" with these very nice locals dressed all in black who said they even had a launcher and we wouldn't need a thrower. All they wanted was for me to get as many of my friends together as I could in a small area. Then lunch at the DFAC.

But if you insist, I guess I can be safe. :D No lunch at the DFAC it is!

Fun fact of the day: I'm still a complete emotional wreck because of the circumstances surrounding my father's death 2 years ago. I just do a really good job of hiding it.

For those who don't already know my wife and I will be leaving Canada in less than a month as I successfully interviewed for a position at the University of Louisville that will act as my second post-doc but will slowly move into an instructor position which will give me the ability to apply for grants that will make me a much better candidate for tenure track faculty which I will be trying to get also at the University of Louisville. We are most excited!

MY TURN TO LIVE JOURNAL
I have had a total of 3 hours of sleep in the past 3 nights, and considering I was sick the past few weeks, I feel pretty masochistic punishing myself like this the second I feel better. I'm fucking tired of assignments, now I'm off to school to stay up all night and edit together 4000 photos into a stop motion film and finish two drawing assignments.
All I want is a good night's rest.
