(The only reason I would vote against this is that my comic too has a red-haired, bespectacled character named Barbara. However, I do not have a monopoly on red-haired, bespectacled characters named Barbara, so do what you will.)Dragonkingdoms wrote:Boobra... er, Barbara. Because, after all, B comes after A, and she already has a name that starts with A as her alter-ego. Nice, non-assuming name.

How about Alison? Or Amhurst? (Last one was a bit of a stretch...I'll admit
)

How about 'Jantar Reins'? 'Jantar' is Russian for amber, and sounds exotic. 'Reins' is a common last name, but also an anagram for 'resin'.
My new avatar is by someone who holds many Indefensible Positions.

As both a science geek and a gemology affectionado, I am afraid I will have to shoot you now.fishmancomics wrote:(I guess this is where this thread belongs)
Imagine this...
You're a sexy(?) redhead paleobiologist who, through an accident on the job, gained the power to control amber (coating things in amber, turning things into amber, etc)...so you changed your name to Ambyr and made it your mission in life to destroy the person you think is responsible for the accident.
Seriously, she gained the power to coat things in several million year old fossilized tree sap? And she can't destroy the person responsible with this power anyhow - she'd be preserving him for all time. And how does she coat it? Does a viscous fluid come out of her body, then go back in time and fossilize, then come back forward in time, or does she just pelt people with bits of amber until they're "covered".
In that case, she could do it already - just buy some amber, and throw it at people.
*slaps you around a bit with a trout*
Oh, and her name should be Rebecca - she looks like a Becky or a Becca to me.
:edit: Mon Ami and I agree!
Name Generator
I don't have a name but I just found this page http://www.seventhsanctum.com/ that has random name generators for just about anything you want. I've only played with it so I can't vouch for it's value.

Maybe she could throw pointy amber kunai, or something
Re: Help me name this lady!
Amber's a little too light for that: it'd be like throwing a Styrofoam kunai.EvilChihuahua wrote:Maybe she could throw pointy amber kunai, or something
In for a penny, in for a pound, Ryan: now go nitpick every other super hero power ever created until you find one that makes perfect sense.rkolter wrote:Seriously, she gained the power to coat things in several million year old fossilized tree sap? Wow...so many responses.
Thanks, everyone!
Before I go on, I want to make a special note:
Her post-powers name was originally Amber, but a few months after I made her up, I bought a huge stack of old comics, one of which was DC's "New Talent Showcase" from March 1984, which I discovered contains a story about a woman named Amber who gets her power from...amber.
I have a paranoid fear of lawsuits, so I'm sticking with Ambyr as her evil villainess name.
Moving on, I have several confessions and/or apologies to make.
First, I'm sorry for the horrible sketch I had up earlier...She's starting to look less like a certain moon-fearing citizen of Tackleford now, so I updated the image.
Second apology/confession would be that my posting this was a bit premature...I just found out that February/March are going to be extremely busy for me (for reasons beyond my control), so I don't have the time neccessary to make this story right now (but this story WILL be told at some point in the near future, or I will be extremely sad).
Third, I forgot to set this thread to notify me when I got replies...so I'm just now reading all of this.
Anyway, thank you again for all of your suggestions...I was somewhat afraid that this thread would be full of stupid replies...You are good people.
I will be sure to keep the (serious) suggestions in mind.
Oh, and...
Thanks for the tip.

Oooh...so they've started basing comic book-style superhero stories on reality now, eh?rkolter wrote:

It's pronounced "Fish-muhn".

...Killbert-Robby wrote:Amber Smith, duh? Or some other surname. I mean, Amber is a very common female name, and you could have all kind of ironic situations like "Who would have guessed young Amber was, in fact, Ambyr!?"
My green-clad superhero named Amber Smith might die of irony if that happens.

In all seriousness, I like the Emma and Melissa suggestions. Unless you're going for serious irony (I haven't read your comic), I would avoid the silly sixties-era "The character's real name is almost the same as their superhero / supervillain name!" shtick. Unless it's a deliberate gag, it just seems poorly done.
