Some of the conversations are based off conversations my friends and i have had. However, they get altered so that they better suit the characters personalities.
Could be worse; could be raining.

here's another interesting question:

Have you ever tried to imbed a personal message in your comic? And I don't mean like putting a chibi in the corner and having it say "So and so- you rock!" I mean, do you ever have any of your characters say/do anything that is relevant to the storyline but is also tailored for a specific person in mind?

The only thing I can think of that comes close is when I clumsily allude to something when it's not especially relevant simply because I love certain writers/works/etc. and like to think of this as Paying Homage to them.

As for real life appearing in my comic or being affected by it, goodness, I hope not. ;)

I try to never put my life in comic directly, specially not to base my characters on real people. But I believe that personal experience has to stand behind everything you write (ie white what you know) so I let real life inspire me, give me ideas, etc.

Last month I started a comic about the aftermath of a nuclear war. Some time later, North Korea tested their nuclear bomb. Coincidence?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was...

In my last comic, I put in a situation that my friend and I had gone through, though he never read my comic.

For this one... eh, I guess putting in a message for yourself probably doesn't count, eh?

Sometimes I'll have a storyline or dialogue that my friends think are directed to them but are not. This often leads to some really embarrassing conversations and it is precisely for this reason that it makes me incredibly uncomfortable to learn when a close friend of mine reads my comic.

I guess that's the crappy part about writing a slice of life comic.

It usually influences my comic. I do give my characters a part of my personality. But I don't know what to say about events. Sometimes they are inspired by real life, but most of all are fictional.

Hmm. There are going to be things in my comic (IMO) that, in some form, have happened to me or some of my friends, and there are going to be things that are entirely fictional. I'm trying not to base any of the people specifically on real life personas, but I'm incorporating parts of personality traits of existing people in them, because they are supposed to be somewhat realistic characters, so I guess that's natural.

Also, part of the message of the comic will be directed at someone I know, even though she doesn't read it.

The next comic I'm going to make will be entirely fictional.

I've taken a couple things out of my life (I go caving, for example) but nothing I've done in my comic has happened to me later on.

Jims comic, however, is a different story. He made up a character (Kats brother Mouse) that we later met in real life.

I uisually only take inspiration from people I know with my characters. Sometimes I direct dialogue to people I know, but I haven't done that in a while. A new storyline is coming up and this time I'm dedicating it to one of my friends.

About a handful of my dialogue is based on real conversations. For the most part though, everything is completely made up.

Real life

Post by Americangothic »

My comic is so fantasy based that there is no way some of those things could happen in real life....unless some vampires and weres want to make themselves known ot me....

But there are lots of little things that get incorporated into story line. Things like pets, archetectual details etc. It is easier to draw things that you have examples of infront of you. I hope it adds to the down-home flavor of the comic.

Yea, some of the one shot joke were based on something that happened, or a conversation I had with someone. Other than that. No.

Save the obvious spoof comics, most of G'nerds2000 is based off of my life... why else would I do something called "Cabinet Saga"?

As for Deep Dive (currently on hiatus), Its based on my meditations on Human Nature within myself, so thats kinda based off of my life too, just in a far more abstract way.

Nothing in my comic is based off events in my life, but a lot of it is based off my observations about life. Also I find a lot of inspiration for jokes in bits of real life trivia... like that there's actually a recipe for "goat penis stew."

Heh heh. Yes.... although I don't think the people they were directed to ever noticed them. :shifty:

All my characters are an alter ego of my perceptions of some of my friends. So it is more the way the characters interact (compared to then the setting itself, how they look and their powers) that are similar to real life ^-^:

Even then it is a bit warped because it is my interpretation of them, and not their own.

My friend got really, really weirded out when I had my hair cut to look like my main character's. I was slightly baffled by this, because the difference between my previous haircut and my new one was 'I miss having bangs. I should get my hair cut to have bangs again!'

That's about as much as my comic has ever interacted with real life.
