Seriously, get the hard evidence BEFORE you come in here whining. otherwise it doesnt turn up and you look like a nugget.

Post the guy's url if he refuses to take his site down at first, sometimes a swarm of "your comic is ripping this off" emails will do the trick rather than running straight to a lawyer.

The first image I saw was a picture of James Bond in an ad for the latest Bond video game or something; I spent a good twenty seconds trying to figure out how they looked alike, until I saw the "click to continue to Grim Fandango screenshots" link...

ShineDog: Ouch. Though I have to agree, it's best to give us a link so we can descend on the thief, rather than complaining without any concrete proof.

I personally can't see past the personal observation that the Ded End (pardon my inappropriately forwardly-positioned letters) character looks strikingly like the child of Homestar and Jack Skellington. If there actually is another character out there with those characteristics, I wouldn't be too surprised. It's difficult to design anything these days without (accidentally) ripping someone off.

I used to sue people all the time for ripping of my "two guys who do stuff and it is hilarious" theme, but it got out of hand. Now I just collect royalties.

Also, I think my new avatar coupled with the 'Jackpot!' designation is very funny.

Call me Mr. Cautious, but that's about the last thing I'd recommend you do. There are far more civil and LEGAL ways to resolve such matters than instigating a harrassment campaign.

In fact, Eff, I'd even recommend that you don't post a URL in a forum at all. Once you see it, you can best decide if it's a rip-off of your stuff, you can take the matters into your own hands as you see fit. I'd definitely say do so DISCREETLY. Don't cause trouble for yourself, because if you unleash a pack of rabid monke-- er, I mean a group of concerned fellow cartoonists on someone, you might stand the risk of getting your own self sue for things like harrassment and libel. This is a litigious era we're living in, after all.

I'm with Buster on this.
If fact, contrary to the popular belief, no legal action is required, nor you need to bother with a real lawyer. If the guy ignores your cease and desist letters, send him a mail from some different mail pretending to be a lawyer or get a friend to do that. You can easily find templated for real legal letters and credentials that look like real ones. That usually scares them out. There's no way he can check if it is a real lawyer or not, and it's perfectly legal anyway.

Seriously, though, why's it taking to long to find the dang site? Just out of sheer brainless curiosity. I mean, this topic is good info in case one of us actually has to deal with a situation like this, but I'd like to know what's going on with the case in question here.
