Batman will always always aways be cooler than superman. Always. Anybody who can hold thier own with Green Lantern, Superman, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter WITHOUT superpowers is tops in my books.KittyKatBlack wrote:Superman is the Ryu of comic books. No no, there are actaully quite few that reach the Ryu standard of suckage. You see, there's people that suck because they just... well, suck. And then there's people that suck because they're so overly twinked out that they just become lame. Superman is this example. He is unstoppable, except by Krytptonite. This is rare, (Supposedly) so it's not a big factor.phactorri wrote:well there are actually quite a few who fall into that catagory...KittyKatBlack wrote:....that's basicly what I said. Ryu is also in this catagory. He is such a twink that anyone that uses him generally does so because he is so overpowered for a fighting game character that it's not even funny. Why do you think he has so many clones? Akuma, Evil Ryu, Dan, and that one chick I forget her name, but you know who she is. She tries to be Ryu. The only clone I've seen other than the Ryu ones, really, is Guile and Charlie. However, in that situation, the clone of the original actually rocks much more. Guile sucks ass. Charlie though, rocks. (And he's cute. ^_^)

well actually I was speaking of unpowered super people who hung with the JLA/JSA in the comics...
as to the twinked out characters in comics. I dunno there are quite a lot of em..
Ever heard of the Phantom Stranger. this guy is so powerful that superman is scared of em... okay granted he's a master of supes other weakness.. magic.
Dr. Fate and Dr. Strange are also pretty twinked out..
lets not get into guys like wolverine and lobo. The Mighty Thor who was okay til they offed Donald Blake. Then there's guys like green lantern, who have a good weakness then they only apply it when its not a big deal. or find ways around it. like hal jordan using speed to change sinestros ring color from yellow to orange in order to win the day.
Comics is full of twinks and I could go on with characters like Resurrection Man, Lady Clea, Mordred... etc.
but I think I'm going on a tangent here.. and showing my fanboy colours.

It's that stupid munchkin effect! They create these unbeatable superheroes that neve die. It's not interesting. I mean several years ago they decided they'd kill superman, right?? I thought to myself FINALLY we're getting somewhere. What do they do? They bring the bastard back. It's not just superman but he's the worst of the lot. Superheroes are mostly invincible, not because they have rare weaknesses or anything like that but because the bastards that write them can't keep them dead.phactorri wrote:Go go Pyramid go!FlameDraGuy wrote:yes yes that all works in theory but can you prove that it work?KittyKatBlack wrote: No no, there are actaully quite few that reach the Ryu standard of suckage. One of the few things I really liked about FFVII was that Areis dies. She dies and you can't bring her back. It's great! Not that I didn't enjoy her as a character but because it actually meant something. I thought I was going to spend the next part of the game trying to bring her back. But you couldn't it was refreshing. It made me thnk that people could write highly dramatic video games and that square was the company to lead the pack...
And then they went and did X-2.

Areis was a bitch. I think the main complaint people had when it first came out was just that you spend all your tiem and effort to level her up and she just off and dies, wasting all your money and time. I mean imagine spending 3 weeks getting all her spells and everything maxed, then suddenly. "Oh. You can't use her anymore." But like I said. She was a bitch, so I wasn't all that upset.

I just think that that exact moment was when people realized that there can more to playing a game then the game itself (though there are many examples of great story-driven games prior). I think the fact that you spent all that time leveling her up only to loose her helped drive home that point. Great story/storytelling is one of the first things I look for now when I judge a game.KittyKatBlack wrote:Areis was a bitch. Megaman, bitches.
Superman's got nothing. Seriously. I mean, every thug in existance is somehow able to get a hold of kryptonite somehow.
BESIDES that, Megaman wouldn't just charge Superman head-on. Hell no; he'd use the rock-paper-scissors method of bumping off the Superfriends one by one to get their powers, probably starting with Hawkman, who had no discernable talent other than flight. Eventually, he'd work his way up to GL, take him out, and then easily be Superman's equal, because barring Superman having "yellow" powers, the Lantern is just as/more powerful than he, due to the unlimited capabilities of his ring.
So there.

Oh cool, Mad-Libs.. I love these... Let's use uh, defenestrate. I really like that word. What I really like about that word is that it even exists. The fact that there is a word that means "to throw someone out the window" is brilliant.FlameDraGuy wrote: but Godzilla would <insert verb here> EVERYONE

*looks sheepish* I...I liked X-2. Sure, it had a lot of stupid bits, but I thought it was fun. And I liked the Tidus ending. *continues to look sheepish. Baaa*
My major problem with a lot of the old superhero comics is that they've become so meta that it's hard to pick them up. They've been done and redone over and over, with different twists, until you get this massive tangle. It's like if a soap opera rewrote itself every season. Although I loved the Batman animated series. That rocked.
But generally, I just prefer comics that hold themselves apart from the DC or Marvel universe. Self contained comics. Like Hellboy or Red Star.
