Re: 1000? Whimper :o
You, my friend, don't read <a href="www.nuklearpower.com/comic">8-Bit Theater<a/> Brian Clevinger gets 30K+ people to read his comic. It's madness. You are my hero! I am trying hard to get to 100 vists average a day.
I had not even considered 1000 as a posibility.
And $35 gets you a week's worth of advertisement on his site. It's a steal.
<a href="http://highschoolrpg.keenspace.com"><img src="http://highschoolrpg.keenspace.com/imag ... <br><br>So then, I was like, DUDE! And, he was like, DUDE! And we were all like, Duuuuuuude...
hits-visits
I know I was personally talking about visits but I think most people are still confused by the hits/visits thing. Plus the hits number looks a lot more appealing. Are we talking "hits" or visits? On keenspace visits are all that matters.
I've so far had just over 1000 hits, and been up for a month. As for page views, I'm not really sure because I don't have a stats keeper, just a counter. Still, considering that none of those hits are mine (counter-blocker running so I don't trip it), I think that for the first full month things are going quite well.... 8) Now to keep it that way!

I'm not doing too poorly, by the month, in my opinion. But then, I don't expect my comic to be wildly popular. If you're in it to get hundreds of readers... you're in it for the wrong reason. I tell my friends, online and IRL. Maybe sometime or another I'll decide to actually advertise.
When you get down to it, though, what do you care what others think of your comic? Do it for yourself, and you may find that it comes out better than if you're just doing it to entertain the public. Sounds selfish, I know. But if you're not doing it because you want to (oh, sure I gripe and complain 'cause it takes so long, but I know that I've made a commitment and if I didn't want to carry through with it, I wouldn't), then you shouldn't be doing it.
Time to reevaluate your reasons, folks.

Exactly my feelings... sort of.DunnBoyz wrote:Never said I was "doing it for the visits". But I want people to see what I spent 3 hours of my afternoon on.
No wait. I want the glory. Yes its good for someone to see it but I want fans too! And groupies who are waiting outside my house in the morning with cameras. And my own tour bus with my name on the side of it.
I spend at least four hours per comic on mine. And you know what? I do it because I want to. I have at least one fan, and I think there are a few others; it's true, that helps make it more worth it to make the comic. But I'd do it even if I didn't think anybody was reading it. I'm stubborn that way.

I work every off hour I have on my silly comic and what do I have to show for it? No life and a four panel strip about a bum getting knifed by and old lady... Its the best I can make it because of that, which is what I want to give my readers. The best comic I can make.
Maybe if I did if half-assed I could update more... oh well. ITs for the fans. and me

I spend so much time on mine trying to make the poses look right, putting the characters in the right places, etc. Not that it always works. The interior of Sorrow Tavern in the latest couple of strips (one of 'em's not up yet) and the position of the people inside changes several times. Like, the whole interior... the window's there, then it isn't. The swinging doors are there, then they aren't.
Anyway, I try mainly to make the characters look right. It's easy to notice my flawed backgrounds, especially since you should always watch the backgrounds on SomeSuch (frequently something important pops up in them), but it's the characters who are most important.
And I spend all that time on the comics mainly for me. So I don't get griped at by the handful of people who read them, for one thing, but mainly so I can improve my mediocre art skills. Well... okay, so my art outside of comics tends to be more realistic than my comic art. I personally like realism, but that doesn't necessarily make it "good art."
Enough of that, though. If you're doing a comic selflessly for a handful of people who actually take time out of their day to read it... that's great, and it's a good reason. If you're doing it for yourself, and not investing too much of your time on insider jokes and trying to make a popular comic that is, in reality, a cliche, then you are still doing it for the right reason. But if the only reason you're doing the comic is because you want to get hits and visits on your site, or earn money, well... reevaluate your reasons. Your comics will be much better if you actually want to do them than if you are forcing yourself to do so. Disdain for what you're doing will *show*... and it'll deter any readership you might have had otherwise.

well..
Well I do the real world thing, mostly like "Hi, 'm buns, here's my webaddress" type thing, I've left tags in bathrooms, bars, you name it, even worn advertising shirts in big cities and had friends pimp me while on vacation.
What'd that get me?
Jack.
I'd like to think I have a reasonably worthwhile manga going, but, since I average just over 200 visits a month...maybe it's not.
Oh well, I have to post my shite somewhere of I'll go nuts, have to show my creation to somebody open minded.
Comic art: it's a thankless job but somebody's gotta do it.
Ps: I would try the poster thing but since I"m the Anti-christ of my school (at least according to the administration, the parents think I'm Jone of Arc o.0) I really don't want to spend my senior year in jail for having an R rated liberal comic Y'know?

Yeah. Mostly what I've been doing is going to forums and talking with people. Oh, and doing google searches for comic directories, places that'll review comics, and humor links. Gotta be careful, though- if your address is just listed there as one of a thousand, and all you get is a name, it's not worth much. Also exchanges are nice, though they clutter up my site unbearable. Be choosey with those. Some you have to apply to, but it's usually worth it.
Not that I get /that/ many visits a day. Lately it's been about 400-580, somewhere in there.
