If it's still on the board, I say keep playing it. In the meantime, I'll find something else to post this evening.

Calvin and Hobbes, if I recall my childhood correctly. Can't remember if it's from one of Calvin's comic books or his take on his parents fighting, though.Bustertheclown wrote:Alright, something new!

Yeah, he reads that comic then goes to turn on the tv and his dad says no because there's too much violence on tv.
I'd find it again but the one I found was rubbish quality.

I don't recall Calvin's parents ever really fighting in front of him. Overall, they provided him a pretty idyllic childhood.
Anyway, yeah, it's from my favorite Calvin & Hobbes strip. It's a little disappointing that there isn't a better version of this image floating around.

They were mostly sarcastically quipping at each other. Like when he does a poor job vacuuming.
Maybe this job was actually about them fighting? Maybe that's how Calvin's imagination channeled potentially frightening events?

Re: Let's play: Where'd It Come From?!
I don't believe so. They really were good parents, and his life was pretty free of that sort of anxiety. His existential crises tended to be far more philosophical in nature and his escapism tended to be far lighter and more fanciful. I certainly don't recall reading any metaphorical fantasies about a troubled home life. It just wasn't part of the thematic setup for Calvin & Hobbes. Besides, Watterson had been pretty vocal about how ridiculous he thought superhero comics were, especially regarding the then-current trends of early- to mid-90's American comic book fare. His most oft-quoted statement about them (usually taken out of context) comes from The Calvin & Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book:
"You can make your superhero a psychopath, you can draw gut-splattering violence, and you can call it a 'graphic novel,' but comic books are still incredibly stupid."
It was an annotation for these strips, specifically, but the one I originally posted is a pretty good illustration of the sentiment.

I don't mean fighting like a drunken screaming match, just their normal passive aggressive jabbing that they do, as seen through Calvin's "I want the world to be more exciting than it actually is" filter.Bustertheclown wrote:I don't recall Calvin's parents ever really fighting in front of him. But anyway, my turn.

No need. The mechanical pencil you borrowed from the last comic cookout we both attended provides more than enough surveillance information to derive the answers to your queries.IVstudios wrote:Also also: Damnit Aura, are you snooping through my media collection or something?

Next Bonuses!
Even though the following extra screencaps don't determine who goes next, they give serious bragging rights to the one who figures them out!
Bonus #1 & Hints So Far . . .
Original Screencap: So far, we know that bonus #1 is not from a video game, movie or music video nor is it from the Star Wars: Clone Wars television show. It's also a part of a long running series. Clicking this link provides a sound clip posted to Google Docs.
Here's another hint (and screencap) from the same source: Bonus #2
This one is pretty damn obscure. If you can place it, a gold star with sprinkles is yours.

Re: Let's play: Where'd It Come From?!
I wasn't really serious, it's most likely that fights Calvin's parents have are simply not important for the world of the comic.Bustertheclown wrote:I don't believe so. If I was, though, I would have made a thematic connection with that other comic where he imagines his parents as a pair of superheroes.
I don't see anything wrong with that remark in any context.Bustertheclown wrote:"You can make your superhero a psychopath, you can draw gut-splattering violence, and you can call it a 'graphic novel,' but comic books are still incredibly stupid."

Also. Would it be cheating to use TinEye?
It probably wouldn't work anyway since most of these images are coming from videos.

Ok, you got me. It does sound wrong when you chop up the sentence in half. But then, you may as well rearrange the words or add new words and go around saying "this is what Bill Watterson said".robotthepirate wrote:McDuffies wrote:I don't see anything wrong with that remark in any context.Bustertheclown wrote:"comic books are still incredibly stupid."![]()
