You certainly speak truth, and I don't generally go out seeking nightmares, since my sleep doesn't come easily as it is. However, I think I've already opened Pandora's Box, as it were. After all, how can I expect to create work that haunts people's dreams, if my own dreams aren't haunted themselves?

What's wrong with that? Everyone I've ever spoken to about internet protocols (including uni students and teachers from different campus') have said it as a word rather than spelling it out.

ewe-rhall, with slightly less emphasis on the 'ewe'.

It would seem weird to me to say it as "you are elle". Takes longer and sounds forced.

And Ballad didn't seem like horror to me. Very well drawn, but slightly boring.

Or maybe I'm just too old and jaded...

As the story progressed, it became less straight up horror-ish. Still, I've learned a lot from Ballad, especially in how to pace a story to create a general sense of strangeness and unease, which I feel is certainly present throughout the story.

Also, I pronounce it You-Are-Ell, because it's not an actual word.

But AWOL is normally pronounced "aye-wholl", not "aye double-ewe oh elle". FBI however, is pronounced "ef bee eye" instead of "fbeay". "What I Know Is" (Wiki) is pronounced "wick ee", not "double-ewe eye kay eye". And why are we whispering?

I read Devoid of Life all in one sitting yesterday. Thanks for the link, Warofwinds. It was interesting. The art is quite good, despite suffering from the emotionless mannequinism that western comics' style characters often take on. There was a lot of extraneous self-narration that got in the way. I think that silence is a lot more horrifying than people who constantly talk to themselves. Also, the end got a little muddled. Still, a very enjoyable read. At its best parts, it was a fine example of surreal horror.

You have a point about pronunciations, although I've heard AWOL pronounced both ways. And I'm whispering, because I kinda want to keep the discussion on track.

I'm horrified at the fact no one has mentioned David Firth's animations. They may not be comics but they still put the willies up me, so to speak.

I think everyone has probably heard of Saladfingers but in my opinion much of his other works are much more disturbing.

i.e Socklops 4
