Hi guys. I'm the artist at Zap! (the comic that's being randomly talked about) and I guess that I just wanted to throw in my two cents about this whole deal.
A lot of people have been like "Well, who are they? How did THEY get Spotted?" I really don't know. We just applied and got lucky, I suppose. I'd like to think that the hard work I put in to the comic to produce stuff like this

maybe had something to do with it, but there TONS of amazing artists who put me to shame every day out there on the net and by a lot more deserve the same opportuinity that we've been granted. I was just really lucky to get paired up with someone as clever as Chris for writing, and doing this comic has been a lot of fun for both of us.
Chris and I are extremely grateful for this opportunity, and we're going to try our best to do right by it.
um... that's all. ^ ^
Van D, has Chris E-mailed you about BSL yet? if he hasn't, jump on him, or tell me and I'll jump on him for you!

WHAT?!? I'm under the double mark of Ghastly?!? Damn, I need to get something done.TOXIC AVENGER! wrote:According to Alexa, he ranks 5,630,748, which means he doesn't generate a huge amount of traffic. For reference, traffic ranks of others here:

Stalag99.net - 734,606

And on Zap... It's Spot material, but not spectacular. Good enough, though! Congrats.

In all honesty, I'm posting in areas of discussion that are more in keeping with my comic. For instance, mine is a superhero comic, not a gamer or college comic, so I'm posting more at dccomics com, and including it in the signature. The problem is, DC has disabled the "signature" function, so I have to type it out every time---but it's worth it, I get a good deal of hits from them.Terotrous wrote:I must discover your tricks for "moving up"...alschroeder wrote:Hey, Mindmistress is moving up! I've been getting hits from other things, too, including a Liv Tyler site that I use to "model" my main character from, since I mentioned it to them.
If you have a D&D comic, you post a lot in D&D forums and include the link in the signature. If you have a gaming comic, ditto. If you're Ghastly---I guess you post a lot in eicchi forums.---Al

I just post in place I like to hang out. For the most part I hang out where webcomic artists hang out. I don't really get that much traffic anymore from my own signature because everyone where I hang out either already reads my comic or doesn't like my comic.
Most of my forum traffic comes from readers who post a link to my comic in forums they hang out with.
In fact, I get more traffic each week from reader posted links in forums and blogs than most webcomics have total readers.
There's a certain point where your webcomic will begin to snowball of it's own accord and your fans will become a sizable promotional force unto themselves. Probably somewhere around the time you're getting over 20K regular readers.
Advertising is still your best way of getting a lot of readers fast. From what I've heard the best way to handle that is to advertise on a popular site, then wait a month or two and advertise there again. Then wait a month or two and advertise once more. It usually takes a few visits to a site to convince people to become regular readers. The first ad brings them in. The second ad reminds them of the comic, and the third ad hooks them as readers.

You know any DnD forums that actually allow you to have banners in your signature? Not just to slap my banner or anything, but I do enjoy the gamealschroeder wrote:If you have a D&D comic, you post a lot in D&D forums and include the link in the signature. Hey! Finally some Spot that I've heard of before.
God yes... I know it's very unfair of me to say so, but every once in a while, a new person says "Hey, they should've spotted Ghastly, that is totally unfair", and none of them ever thinks for a moment that there's much, much more that they know behing the whole issue... And every time I feel like saying: "Where were you last few years? On a deserted island?"wp wrote:If only you had a dollar for every time you had to explain that one...

Not offhand, since mine is NOT a DND comic, but you might ask the author of DUNGEON DAMAGE at http://dungeondamage.keenspace.com/. I bet he'd know.---AlBloodKnight wrote: You know any DnD forums that actually allow you to have banners in your signature? Not just to slap my banner or anything, but I do enjoy the game

(Nodding.) And since I have a real INTEREST in the forums I hang out at, like the superhero ones (hey, I met my wife through a Julie Schwartz Superman letter column), it shows. ----AlGhastly wrote:I just post in place I like to hang out.

Well, the best RPG site on the internet is http://www.rpg.net . It's great. It doesn't allow banners but I do have a link to my comic in my sig and get some traffic from it. The best site devoted to D&D in particular (as RPGNet has a huge number of D&D/ D20 haters) is http://www.enworld.org .
I believe the artist for Dungeon Damage is a regular at RPGNet as well.

Not that I hold particular clout (...take to mean: ANY clout...) but from what I've read ZAP's a damn spanky comic and well worth Spotting. I'm glad The final choice doesn't go to who has the most hits... and here's why:
'SPOT gets people more hits, so if you're already pulling in numbers like Ghastly (which rocks my socks, btw...) then you don't NEED the added publicity that keenspot would offer. Comics doing phenomenal work but who haven't been noticed as much (like ZAP!), THEY deserve to get a little boost, I think.
That said, while I think of Keenspot Invites are definitely something to be proud of, I'm dang happy with KeenSPACE. There's a kind of ghetto pride and community here, and that's more than enough for me. Some of the most phenomenal artwork and some of the best writing are still 'Spacers, and power to 'em!
