Concerts are awesome.

For discussions, announcements, non-technical questions and anything else comics-related or otherwise that doesn't fit in any of the other categories.

pockybot wrote: yeah rudy from :w: is probably fat old and bitter...I liked the wreath of barbs album best, but a lot of their stuff is kind of tiring. I cant stand crap like Velvet Acid Christ, totally cliche to me. Geez, ya got to see Sarah Brightman? lucky. Her concerts are expensive...but I LOVE stuff like her, delerium, conjure one, dead can dance, enigma, enya, loreena mckennit, bel canto, clannad, etc.
I was classically trained in operetic tones as a child. So I like a lot of that of closer to that mentality, or anyone who shows real dimension in the use of vox. and Sarah classifies. I liked Enigma, and Conjure one as well as stuff like Faith Assembly. But I could never get into a lot of the Irish gaelic traditionals with drumbeats that always bothered me a lot. I'm a traditionalist there I think. ^_^
I also do electronic music...I have an EBM futurepop music project coinciding with my webcomic PockyBot. Think VNV, funker, Apop, or Suicide Commando with the offbeat lyrics of Freezepop, Bloodhound Gang or They Might Be Giants, with a heavy retro gaming/anime/wacky theme.
But gosh, Reason, how I love thee. But I have some remix rainchecks lined up and other stuff. Lots of stuff Im looking forward to doing in 2005.
I love reason as well, but I have to watch myself its great for adding simple sounds or simulating nice racks I could never afford, but I like to play out as well, and my solo projekt stuff sometimes gets so complicated in Reason there is no way i can play it. My solo project however is in a more indie/punk meets synth function sort of thing. If I was to speak of it its sort of like Hot Water Music meets Assemblege 23 meets Boytronic meets Integrity. But my my comic and music are really seprate from each other, as Decypher is very coffee house retro. but the comic is just as mixed up as my musical influences so maybe they arn't so unalike.

Remixing is a lot of fun. I just have this need to play out again, I truely miss it.
The only synthcon I know went defunct. There will be america's first ever big EBM synthpop festival in vegas next june. usually those sort of things are held in germany. As for san francisco...I got to about 4 regular industrial/goth clubs like Death Guild (Im there every week...as is the guys from AFI, Information Society, Informatik, and other bands) DNA Lounge, and some other ones. Never heard of Coven. Then again Ive been in thsi scene for a decade so it all seems hazy to me
the DNA lounge sounds familar, but the Coven was thickly goth. I don't really get into that scene much. As to Synthcon going under, was it after all the whole "people wanting thier money back" last year? I heard somthing about that but I don't keep up enough with it.

Moz needs to get off his arse and come out to the east coast again. i've never seen him play out before and would love to!

I remember taking piano and casio lessons growing u, man that was a pain...like art, I could never follow instructions or tutorials...so I kind of just like to experiment on my own. I have a strong liking for middle eastern and Indian sounds, I think there is something rich about a lot of that stuff...so I love how I see some of that influence in stuff like Loreena Mckennit, mixed with celtic, etc. I see a lot of richness in so many cultures...ancient and future Japanese, African tribal, the middle east, etc. I love a good textural sound...but I also love disposable trance pop music, heh.

Well admittedly my overriding forte' is the art thing, the music thing is more harder but just as rewarding. My goal is to try and marry the two into a few unique stage shows next year, hopefully Fanime 2005 and some others. Humor has always been a big part of me, so to be able to add both insight and humor into my music is something that really excites me. Another reason I love VNV so much, besides the classical themes, is the almost stand up comedy act quilted within their shows...I think a sense of humor goes a long way in this world. The ability to inspire and motivate as well too.

Definately...I was a little late for this Freezepop remix contest, but Id love to properly remi them and some others. Theres an art to remixing I think, than simply slightly retouching the original...sometimes it can become as arduous as creating an original piece.

*shivers at the thought of an all goth hangout* Oh yeah, synthcon. The funniest shit Ive ever seen in my life is the synthcon 2001 dvd. oh man, I was literally in tears on the floor with my friends watching that. No offense to the people who put that on, but Ive never seen anything so funny. I liked some of the stuff on there too...they shoulda put synthcon 2002 on dvd as well.

I love going to concerts. Went and saw Eric Clapton back in June (damn that man can play guitar), and then took my brother to see Peter Frampton and Styx last month (decent show, but I'm glad I didn't have to pay for the ticket). Next month, I'm gonna see Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson.

My favorite concert experience, though, was about twelve-fifteen years ago, when I caught Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on their Great Wide Open tour (I say 12-15 years 'cause I can't remember how long its been). Anyway, managed to get front row center seats, and damn that rocked. Even got Tom Petty's guitar pick at the end of the show--he handed it to me himself.

I like going to concerts. I haven't been to one in forever (unless you count a few local showcases and such). I think my problem with concerts is everytime I go I see some lameass opening act or some horrible performance and I say "Goddammit if only I could find bandmates, I could tear the roof off of this motherfu..." you get the idea.

That's why I have a comicstrip about the fictional band I would most likely be involved in, even though I'm not a fan of hardcore or metal.

I just found out the Beastie Boys are touring to support their latest, so I might have to go to that.

I REALLY don't like the Beastie Boys. However, they were at Lalapalooza (back in its heyday) the year I went (mostly to see The Breeders and the Flaming Lips) I caught thier show and it was phenominal. I still don't like thier music but they know how to put on a great show.

Mmmm, Flaming Lips. One of the few good things to come out of this God-forsaken state (me being the other :) )

Hehe. Just the fact that Songs for Dustmites even exists is one of the most interesting things to happen so far this century. Who'da thought that Steve from Blues Clues would go on to record an album with the Flaming Lips? Best Blues Clues Ever:

I haven't heard a lot of eastern music but that Satar thingy is really pretty. I wanted to ge some after listening to that the E song by Wolfsheim but never got around to it.

Actually me and some friends were going to try somthing multimedia a while back. and it was quite the ensemble it just never got off the ground. it was going to be a open poetry, video, synth and indie guitars sort of thing. it would have been neat, I've been inlove with that aspect since I saw the cassandra Complex video.

I've been to two 'concerts', which is sad considering I live really close to a huge concert stadium that has concerts for some of my favs all the time.

My first one was the Western Fest the town I grew up in had, a bunch of people I didn't know then the Charlie Daniels band came on. And I had to leave half way through The Devil Went Down To Georgia because of a migrain.

The second one was my 16th birthday, local band, really good. I was friends with the band leader (worked together and had been friends for years) So they decided to do the gig for a reasonable amount (I guess I wasn't paying). The band rocked, the day sucked, and the only good part was the 15mins of so I was in my bathroom with one of my friends boyfriends'. Ok, that sounds so wrong, I was just getting him one of my shirts to wear 'cause he was attacked by a random can of strawberry pop...

trinket90 wrote:I saw Electric Six two weeks ago, the lead singer looks totally different from the filmclips - similar enough that you can tell it's the same person, but that's about it.

Nevertheless, they were very good. The mosh pit was packed and I was in there for about an hour and a half. I was drenched with sweat afterwards, and only about half of it was mine I'm sure. I couldn't speak because my voice was gone from shouting, and I couldn't hear because I was so close to the front. Took three days for my ears to stop ringing.
Best $30 I ever spent.
I missed electric 6, plus i was too poor... The most annoying thing was missing Strapping Young Lad last year, i didnt know about it until a week or two after. Thats what I get for not keeping up

The last concert I went to was A Perfect Circle which was awesome but the best so far was Opeth

The first big show I ever went to was Ozma, The Get Up Kids, and Weezer. I never thought that one could mosh to "My Name is Jonas", but it happened.
A few weeks ago, I went to a Primus show. Les Claypool is a very strange man, and I am confident that he woulda been great in silent films back in the day with his odd mannerisms.
I think that the most annoying thing that ever happened was at an Alkaline Trio show. There was this strange child having some sort of religious experience and he kept on rubbing up against me. And it wasn't in a crowd, it was just him that was touching me and he was practically foaming at the mouth.
One of the coolest things I've seen was a Ted Leo and the Pharmacists show. During the encore, he passed out tamborines to the audence.

I one day hope to see The Flaming Lips and Medeski Martin and Wood, as well as the DCI finals.
