Dat Gmail Contest

Okay, because I'm such a high profile and internationally famous person, I was given a GMail account. And because I get MILLIONS and MILLIONS of emails every day, I have the opportunity to invite someone to use the service. So that's what this contest is about.
If you are interested in getting a GMAIL invite from me, there is one simple thing you have to do. Send me some fan art. I've never gotten fan art before. Everyone else gets some, why not me?
Moron from the peanut gallery shouts: "It's cuz you got no fans, Billy boy!"
Yeah, yeah...
Anyway, I'll let this contest run until the first or second week in September. Whoever's art has the most LOVE in it gets an invite. Your skills do not matter... Just the LOVE.
Here's the addy written in a way to confuse email grabbing bots:

If that confuses you, there's a link on my main page and on my blog.

Erm, I thought all you had to do was to be an active blogger user to get Gmail invites. I mean, I have the capacity to invite too. I certainly never thought it'd be something some would want as a prize.
Strange. When they first announced Gmail everyone was screaming foul about the auto-scanning content ad thing. Now that they made it exclusive with the same conditions everyone wants in.
People are strange.

You need to have a blogger/blogspot account last I heard. They're both run by Google.
And really, it's just a silly little contest to help people pass time, get some exposure to a different audience of people, and maybe get a 1gig email account to boot.
No need to be a negative nelly. It's about the LOVE Phalanx... the LOVE.

An active one. A friend of mine was constantly whining about how he missed his chance at being invited because he was an inactive blogger an was begging for invites from one of us.William G wrote:You need to have a blogger/blogspot account last I heard. They're both run by Google.
I'm very jealous with my email addy though. Blast them spammers.

I'm glad you're all feeling the LOVE.
Truth be told, I have no idea how many invites I have. I've heard one, I've heard I can invite a limited number, I've heard that I can invite as many as I'd like. I'm not caring enough to look it up.
Jigglyman: If you're serious, email that to me. I need email addresses in order to send the invites

This reminds me of the Orkut episode. I saw invitations being sold on e-bay for ten dollars. That was before someone made the mistake of invited brazilians to it. For those who haven't heard the news, brazilians outnumbered americans at Orkut. But that's got nothing to do with the number of internet connections raising up around here. It's due to the fact that they would invite just anyone to be part of the community. While the americans struggled to keep the Orkut an invitation-only place for friends, brazilians ruined that 'tight' community feel. That's why we're so hated there.
I got about five invitations to Orkut and never bothered to register to any of them. I found Orkut to be a gigantic ego trip. And besides, I can barely keep up with the communities I'm already a part of.

Google mail uses bot to scan mails to display relevant text adverts. They do NOT Spam. Spam = Mass sending of bulk unsolicited email. Google Mail does not do that.BERSERKERCREW wrote:i hear it's kind of a spam thingie though.
like there's no real privacy using it when they filter through each email.
what's the deal with that.
I've been told that Yahoo and Hotmail do this scanning thing too. They're just smart/unethical enough not to let the users know they do it. Or at least1, that's what I've been told.
Cetainly I find it amazing that my brand new hotmail accounts get spammed immediately even though I've never given the address to anyone. It's either a dictonary attack or Hotmail's got a very bad security leak.
As for Gmail... holy crap?! People Sell the invites??

BTW, what's our next HNTRAC Theme? I plump for How Not To Kill Off a Character since it seems more logical after How Not To Do An Action Scene, but Tero says you've got How Not To Tell A Joke lined up...

Hey, you promised not to tell!Psiogen wrote:Aw man, I haven't been able to feel LOVE since the day Srdjan murdered my family.
That was kinda my wish for a long time, like a counterweight for a How Not To Introduce A Storyline, but now that you mentioned, Kill A Character sounds more hronological. But then again, Kill A Character is kind of similar to the Action Scene one, so I think in that case we'd have a lot of practically same entries, so maybe Joke is a good Idea to make a change.BTW, what's our next HNTRAC Theme? Apologies to Wille G, I've completely derailed this threadmcDuffies wrote:That was kinda my wish for a long time, like a counterweight for a How Not To Introduce A Storyline, but now that you mentioned, Kill A Character sounds more hronological. But Killing off isn't the same as Action... we're breaking the taboo (yeah right and killing off a main character) Or something like that. I mean, I'm sure we're going to get 101 samples of Star Wars parodies, but the guys on the tagboard seemed keener on Killing Off than Jokes at this stage.
Anyway, a suggestion: we could have Killing off first then Jokes, since a lot of series do that anyway. After a sad episode where one character gets killed off, they have a cheery one next... that's where the jokes can come in.
But whatever the decisino, we should get it moving, we've been stuck on Action for ages.
Maybe we could put it to a vote?

Sure, I was just saying that we're gonna get a lot of entries that coulda' as well go under the Action topic. In fact, it could be a bit too much leading for people, they could continue with action scenes, led by previous topic, forgeting that character can be killed in other ways than in fight.Phalanx wrote: But Killing off isn't the same as Action... we're breaking the taboo (yeah right and killing off a main character) Or something like that. It's no big deal to me, really. You can put Kill now, Joke later, it's ok for me as well. It will all be done sooner or later. No need to bother with a poll.Anyway, a suggestion: we could have Killing off first then Jokes, since a lot of series do that anyway.
