WCA 2004 -- Introducing "Online Comics Day!"
Attention, webcartoonists (Keenspot, Keenspace, non-Keen, whoever):
I took over the chores of managing this years "Web Comics Awareness" event, and we're ready to go public. We've changed the name of the event to Online Comics Day, and we've automated the process of getting your comic listed.
Consider this an invitation to participate (although you may still get semi-personal email from me). If you've got questions, you may want to check the Online Comics Day FAQ first, but I'm happy to discuss things in here.
Cheers,
--Howard
NOTE: The WCA and Online Comics Day are not affiliated with nor sponsored by Keenspot Entertainment. Keenspot and Keenspace cartoonists have participated in the past, however, so this message is being posted here as a notice to a community of potential interest.

i get a 404 on you FAQ and a 'your dns is out of date' on the main page...

guess i'll just have to wait till it updatesYou're trying to get to http://www.comicsday.com, right? Well, it's not here. It's actually over there. Unfortunately, I can't tell you where there is, because your browser or local DNS server seem to think that there is here.

We had some DNS issues a day or two ago, but it was just your garden variety "DNS is pointing to the wrong place" thing. The site is up and running just fine, though -- I was just there. I believe that after April 7th (end of day today) worldwide DNS changes should have propagated.
If you're feeling plucky and would like to troubleshoot the DNS aspect, edit your hosts file and add an entry as follows:
216.201.150.40 http://www.comicsday.com
Close all your browser windows (and on Win32 machines close all your explorer windows as well) and fire it up. Should work like a champ. If it does, your DNS is out of date, and the problem should resolve itself sometime in the next 12 hours.
Typically the hosts file is found in your /etc directory. On Windows it may be buried pretty deeply under windows/system32/drivers/etc.

Go count my posts on the Keenspot forums before you think about putting me in your "box." The only reason my post count HERE is so low is that I haven't used it since the crash. Which, as I recall, was well before October of 2003, when you JOINED.orion wrote:Sounds cool to me.
By the way since he only has two posts should he be put in the box?
Just wondering.
And before THAT there were the UBB forums for Keenspace, where I just went by Howard.
But thanks for asking first.
PM me. I'm not above subjecting myself to adulation. My ego is up to the task.Luprand wrote:The first time you see someone post who's from the next town over from you ... wow. Almost makes me want to look him up and go ask for his autograph.
Good question. When you sign up you'll see that there are TWO URL fields for you to fill in. One is the URL for your comic's home page. The other is for the archive page or static page upon which your Online Comics Day contribution resides permanently. In the case of your strip, that url would be "http://phbites.keenspace.com/d/20040505.html"Terotrus wrote:What happens when the comic moves from the front page to the archives?
I'll make sure we get this added to the FAQ.

I like the avatar. Reminds me of a certain Unioc Space Pirate I stuck in the newsbox back in 2001...

Yours looks nicer. Those teeth-y things have GOT to hurt, though.

And your buttering powers are indeed formidable. Apology accepted.orion wrote: Sorry to Howard for trying to imboxify you, your authoring powers are too mighty.

It seems to be a little known fact, but the relevant archive page for the latest comic is created at the same time as the index page. So say your latest comic is 20040404, there will already be a 20040404.html archive page.Terotrous wrote:What happens when the comic moves from the front page to the archives?
I was hoping someone would be doing this again! Excellent!
