Anyone like Dr. Who or Blake's 7?

Post by Okie »

Shallow Grave actor Christopher Eccleston has been named as the new Doctor Who to front the cult BBC sci-fi show when it returns next year.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainmen ... 102295.stm

One of the stars of cult sci-fi series Blake's 7 has signed a deal to bring the show back to screens more than 20 years after it ended.

Kerr Avon is probably my favorite character in all of science fiction. But Vila is cool too. I have all but one episode on tape.

Blake's 7 Series 1 comes out on DVD on April 12, 2004

If you want to understand Blake's 7, think of it this way... It's ALMOST EXACTLY like Star Trek. Except instead of a Star Fleet Trained Crew with a clear chain of command, you have a handful of criminals who manage to steal an alien warship.

Instead of having Star Fleet where people don't need money and things are all fine... you have the "Federation" where everyone's corrupt and money and power intertwine.

Blake's crime was being a political opponent of the Federation. Much of the show is them fighting the Federation. The first episode has Brainwashing in it!

I noticed that the Blake's 7 DVD's sold in the UK are Europe/Middle East/Japan coded. I haven't found anyplace yet selling America/Canada region version.

Woo! I used to watch Doctor Who all the time when I was little. I've forgotten alot of it, but I used to have it all neigh memorized. I never really got into Blake 7, though. Still, I'm excited about the new Dr. Who series....just so long as it's not like that horrible, horrible movie they did last time.

I know I love Dr WHo, even though I've never seen it. (You have no idea how hard it is to find anything Dr Who-related in Sweden.)

But... The king of sci-fi is LEXX.

There's been talk of B7 DVDs for a while... they were supposed to come out in both R1 and R2 a couple years ago, but never did. I guess I'll just have to live with VHS until R1 DVDs come out!

And it looks like Paul Darrow isn't involved with the B7 revival now - more at http://www.blakes7.com and http://www.avon-paul-darrow.co.uk/

I'm looking forward to new Dr. Who episodes - I don't remember seeing anything Christopher Eccleston has been in, so I hope he's a good choice!

LEXX is no good, unless you're talking about Tales From an Alternate UNiverse, which was extremely good (LEXX is the new version of Tales From an Alternate UNiverse for anyone not in the know)

He's back! The Doctor has returned! I'm so happy. It kinda bites that the 8th doctor only had one adventure though.

Good thing I have an all region DVD player and a local rental store that orders overseas dvds then. :D

Only one on TV, anyway... there were plenty of books, and some audio and online stuff. Not the same thing, though... I would have liked to have seen more televised stories with him.

Also, if you have a DVD player on your computer, there's a program that allows you to continually reset your computer's regional coding (usually you can only do it maybe 5 times or so).

I also have to contend that the Sci Fi king is Red Dwarf. Mmm. Red Dwaaaarf.

Agreed, but it didn't take off on TV like it used to. Maybe UPN will cancel Game Over and put Doctor Who in its place.

never seen blake 7 but now I'm interested... as to your reginal setting on a comp dvd.. if you have a universal dvd-rom you won't have that issue. but non-universal has a limit to regional settings. I thought it was like seven times.

as to doc who I love the old show.. but that fox movie they did in 2000??? really didn't do it any justice.. I'll be excited for a new dr. Who series... but after that fox movie I'm not going to put my expections to high this go.

I loved the movies, I loved season "2" of the TV show even more (especially the first half), but season 3 was a small disappointment. Haven't seen season 4 yet, they stopped airing it in Sweden and it hasn't been released on video...

I would like to ask a question without a hint of sarcasm because I'm curious and terified of possibility that I'm missing gomething good:

What is so great about "Team A"?

I mean, I watched a couple of episodes and it seemed kinda stupid to me. Like cartoon shows where thet pull a character that was popular in older show, and think up a dozen of new characters in a few days to fill it up...
On the other side, people literally worship it.
Am I missing something?

I guess it's moved on to "We'll try to keep the feel of the original show! Or at least the name. Or something. We want to update it! It's for a new audience! It's not like we actually liked the original show anyway..." now. :-?
I'll have to live with 44+ hours of the original show.

Out of curiosity, which episode are you missing?
