After having a "I'm too depressed to do anything" week last week, I managed to get 4 updates for my comic this week.
On a side note, someone used google image search in Greece to find my website today...
...I'd love to know how that came about.

I'm kind of having this problem, except it's not the creativity, it's like, the ability to draw all of a sudden. My scene I'm going to be working on heavily features a character I haven't drawn in a long time and I"m trying to really nail down his design before I start trying to draw the actual pages. I thought I'd just have to do a simple facing forward, side profile, and then a few different expression excercises, but everything keeps coming out really deformed. Like it looks like things I would have doodled during class 4, 5, 6 years ago.Cope wrote:Creative blocks are basically the worst.

I *think* what I need to do is just take a break for an hour or afternoon and do some real-people studies, because it *seems* that what's happening is my brain is kind of frying out on symbols/shortcuts and not understanding what they represent, if that makes any sense. Like it keeps coming up a hodgepodge of symbolic features instead of, you know, something that approximates a human face. Part of it is that I don't think I ever decided what exactly the character is supposed to look like, so I just keep throwing down Mr. Potato head parts on the paper and hoping this time they'll look acceptable. The trouble is I don't want him to look too different from his last appearance, so I'm trying to keep things kind of lined up with how they looked last time?
I've actually been noticing this happening more often lately, and am not sure why it happens. Just this weird temporary regression back to like, I dunno, almost the way I drew when I was in high school. But at least the characters in, say, Band Geeks Anonymous were relatively distinct and serviceable for the purpose I was using them. It's like my brain wants to get things done, so it reverts to an "easier" method/technique instead of rising to the challenge I'm setting for it.
It's very frustrating.

Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?
I think I'm going to go through my links page and remove the ones that go to comics that are either abandoned or seem to be on indefinite hiatus (as well as the ones that are simply not online anymore
). I also need to add some new ones so all told the number of links will probably remain the same.
I was thinking of splitting the links list to "Updating Comics," "Complete Comics," and "Hiatus/Abandoned/Incomplete," but with the third category it's tough to tell so I might as well just remove them altogether. If I see someone's come to life again I can always add them back to the list.

Michelle lost her bead on what she was doing at the end of January, and things have been floundering around since. But yesterday she got back into the swing of it, and she's trying to churn out as much as she can before she loses it again.

Michelle finished all the character line art and lettering on our mini-project a couple days ago, and the backgrounds are coming along a lot more easily than anticipated.

I finally started advertising. It's gotten me about... uh... 60 new visits so far. Lots of adviews but few clicks. My banner probably sucks.

I wonder if saying "From the creator of Elf Only Inn" would help?Sortelli wrote:I finally started advertising. It's gotten me about... uh... 60 new visits so far. Lots of adviews but few clicks. My banner probably sucks.

It miiiight, but might hurt too, since this isn't at all like EOI. Although any past readers who've found NS aren't complaining about it.Tim wrote:I wonder if saying "From the creator of Elf Only Inn" would help?Sortelli wrote:I finally started advertising. I kinda don't like resting on those laurels though. I feel like I failed to keep up with the old comic so I don't want to stand on its shoulders.

Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?
I saw little success with advertising and have resolved not to spend more money until I've *made* enough money on my ad slot to even be close to breaking even with what I spent total. At the current rate this wil take me about 10 years.
*thumbs up emoticon*
hopefully it will work out more favorably for you.
