ComicGenesis Pageant, 2013 Post Apocalypse celebration!

Post by VeryCuddlyCornpone »

last year's rule/particpant thread
Thing CG Winner 2012
Mr CG participants 2012
Ms CG particpants 2012

Rules are the same as previous years.

People looking to participate may enter any/all of the following:
~ONE female
~ONE male
~ONE thing (genderless or unclassifiable)
from each comic they have. So if you have "The Poop Comic," you can enter one male, one female, and one thing, and if you also have "The Lumpkin Comic" you can enter one of each from that as well. Obviously, you don't have to enter one of each, but you do have the OPTION to do so.

Each entry must include the following criteria:

[Must be pictures:]
-The character in formalwear
-The character in swimwear

[May be EITHER in text or illustrated (comic) form:]
-The character's special talents/skills
Answers to the following questions:
-If you could have lunch with anyone in the world- living, fictional, or brought back from the dead- who would it be?
-What is your spirit animal?
-If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

***All of these above criteria must be met in order for the entry to be qualified!***

Post your entries within this thread! Entries must be received by June 8th. Then I'll make a separate thread for voting which will stay open for a week, and then the winners will win and the losers will be incinerated.

Other important things to keep in mind:
1. The characters you enter MUST belong to webcomics that already are running, not hypothetical comics, and not from dead and abandoned comics. (If your comic is on hiatus, characters are still qualified for entry, as ideally this might prompt you to end said hiatus after all!)

2. When posting entries here, make ONE POST for EACH character, and ONE character for EACH POST. Don't put all your characters from The Poop Comic all in one post- it'll make things much easier for me if you give each character their own special squishy little post.

One last thing that I'd like some feedback on- last year there was a bit of a quandary where some comics encouraged their readerbases to vote for their characters. On the one hand, why not? On the other hand, does this turn it back into a popularity contest that makes it less fun for comics with a smaller readerbase? (probably)
I feel like it is more fair if participation is limited to CG forumgoers; however it is true that there are so few of us that voting probably won't yield very "exciting" results. Any suggestions for keeping this contest fair without making it dull?

I'd like to participate, and I think I could cook up an interesting entry for many of the characters from my secret project, but it's unlikely to be running by June 6th, and even if it was those questions would result in massive spoilers because a lot of those answers are plot-relevant.

Oh well, next year I guess.

We could host it somewhere neutral like deviantArt. If we got enough interest there (how one does that is beyond me) the votes would probably come from people without knowledge of any of the comics so would be unbias.

I shall be aiming to place 4 entries this year.
Having decided last year that Robot was male and not a thing I might enter a Mr, Ms and a thing for RTP and pick one of the characters from Sub-Consensus, which will have 2 whole updates by the 6th and so will be technically eligable. I'll have to stick to a Mr for that one though because it's an all male cast.

Makes up a bit for being too late for Webcomic Above You this year.

I can't enter officially since I don't have a comic anymore but I may just have to do some unofficial entries for the fun of it.

As for the question of making it interesting? No ideas but I can't see much real harm in outsider voting so long as people are sensible about it, it's not like they're trying to win some huge prize here, just bragging rights and having fun.

If I have time this year I'd love to participate again. I'll have to see what my schedule looks like when it starts.

Eh, I think I could alter that rule probably. The point of that rule I guess is to discourage people from whipping up new characters wholecloth purely for the purposes of entering them in the contest I think.
If you still don't want to enter on the basis of revealing information, that's cool though. :)

Figure I'll probably do that as well if I get the chance. I always love creative exercises. :)

I'm in.

As for voting, I'm just doing this for fun, so if someone wants to ask their fanbase for votes, then good for them.

Actually, serious question: Can I do a group entry? Because I'd like to do one for all three of the Gimlet sisters together, it would be fun to practice the differences in their appearances:

Yeah, why not. I feel like with participation as limited as it is these days, the "rules" are more just suggestions anyway :P

Well, on top of the spoiler thing, there's also the tiny little wrinkle that my secret project isn't exactly a comic, so I think I'll probably sit out this time.

I have an exam on the 3rd giving me the 4th and 5th to produce my entries.

They might be quite quick efforts.

This is the worst thing about the 21st Century so far (OK, right after Pitbull) so I rather we didn't.

I don't endorse doing it, but, at the same, I don't think anyone should have to snoop around to make sure everyone's playing by the rules. So, whatever.

As an aside, I have Memorial Day off next week, and I think that's gonna be as good of a time as any to get some drawings done for this.

I ain't got crap yet, but I did manage to finish my page a day earlier than usual, so I should have some time to work on this in between now and the deadline. The 8th is also conveniently LiveDraw Day, so I wouldn't be surprised if I end up working on stuff during the session as I try to beat the midnight deadline.
