Though I must admit Mofo, I often accuse myself of sometimes reusing art, only if it fits, but it's mostly do to lack of time. I'm getting away from that slowly as I get used to my characters and get a little more time to work on my strips.
Also, you picked up on something I've been pondering for a while. It seems anyone who makes a anime/manga style gets INSTANT recognition. It sort of gets on my nerves, as I was going to go anime/manga, but chose my current style. BTW, how dare he mock Magna, I'm not the biggest fan of the style, but check this out... from his own page: http://offbeat.keenspace.com/d/20010718.html
I don't think that's a parody.

It's not a parody. I had a conversation with someone who believed that the manga was difficult to do. He also believed that his poor cartooning was because he was more of a "Painter". and that cartooning is completely different than painting.
SO... I was proving him wrong by doing a painted manga piece, I also did 2 other painted cartoons. All of which I learned how to do AS I did them. =)
I think learning manga is like learning the warner bros, Disney or any other popular art drawing style. The trouble with that, is there are thousands of other artists drawing the same way.
It's one thing to be influenced by other artists, then develop your own style, but it's another thing to be a copy cat. Look at Sergio Argones. No one drew like him before he came along! I can spot his drawings a mile a way! You cannot say the same thing about The Disney or Manga/Anime Styles. Because they are all developed from contributing artists. Who Started the Anime style? Or Manga style?
If they didn't have credits at the end of a Disney movie, could you tell me who drew what? Same with Any Anime movie. You might know the director's name, but who drew what? I bet I could get a dozen manga drawings, and test anyone on who the artists are.
Drawing and painting go hand in hand. You CANNOT be a good painter, unless you are a good at drawing.
Unless you are into that foo-foo modern art. I call it 'couch art' cause people buy it if it matches the couch. HA! =) They say what's the difference between a fine artist and a commercial artist? a commercial artist can draw.. HA!
I am not a know it all. I am still learning myself. I just see all these hobbiest saturating the web with crappy comics. In time, will give a bad name to comics. Not being the best you can be as an artist forces yourself to accept mediocrity.
Quite fucking up my god damn sport!
