Oh man Warren that's horrible. I hope by the time you read this it's from the warm comfort of your home

Yes, finally got in last night. It's nice to vent on a thread specifically designed for whining though.
But if you saw what my office mates did to my work space....

Ugh I specifically never fly with domestic airlines, because single every time I did, there were delays up to 8 hours. Never had such experience with foreign airlines. I've never flied with american though.

Well, for those of you keeping score of this shit show at home, Michelle's relapsed.
So, it's back to the hospital tomorrow.
Chances are, we'll probably be hanging out here a lot, so we'll keep you updated.

My desk was gone entirely and replaced with a Zen workspace.

One monitor of mine was totally gone, and all the buttons on my phone were reprogrammed to Zen masters like General Tso, Mao Zedong and Yao Ming.

This wasn’t as comfortable as it looks…. Office Girl was helpful in providing paper-thin slippers.
Paper-thin, because they were made with copier paper.

I appreciate a little greenery in the office. Luckily they thoughtfully provided plastic plants, since there are no windows in my office.

There was also a vaguely Polynesian air to the whole décor.
I need to go on vacation less.

Awesome, Warren.
I know it's not comfy, but with a bit of erganomic work that could become a super productive work space.
I'm back from my holiday, thankfully free from woe. My legs hurt but that's mostly self inflicted from all the running. Not too much can go wrong when you're only going 2 hours down the road to the coast (though when my in-laws went there a few weeks back they had to come back early because a tanker crashed into the coastal road).

Re: Livejournal Thread 4: Can't kill what's already dead ins
Went into the city this morning and got there in like an hour and a half including getting lost. The way out? Took us three and a half hours. So I spawned a headache early afternoon that hasn't faded yet.
And now everyone's talking about the healthcare mandate thing, which, whatever, politics gives me ajida but I'll ignore it. Then- okay, I'm sure you guys have a friend or at least know someone who does, that friend that's an asshole but everyone invites to places anyway because they're totally fine some of the time? Okay, so I have one of these, right, and he posts a status on facebook making a joke that people who can't afford healthcare should essentially just die. HA. HA. SO FUNNY.
Except not, because he comes from a wealthy family and has never wanted for anything, and his parents' wealth has actually gotten him out of serious legal problems in the past. Compare it to my family who've been scraping by for years, living decently comfortably mind you, but always worrying about when the other shoe is going to drop, whether I'd get to finish school, whether we can afford that medical procedure we need.
Not funny, dude. This isn't about who you vote for. This is just out and out coming along and saying "I'm rich, I'll never have to deal with the consequences of my actions, and I have no sense of humanity whatsoever."
Now my headache is much worse

Re: Livejournal Thread 4: Can't kill what's already dead ins
So the US is still potentially going to do the NHS thing then? I thought that had been scrapped along with Obama's popularity. The word Communism came up.
I love the NHS, goodness knows why, most of my stress comes from my job. If we had a vote whether or not to keep it I would, despite all its flaws.
I've tried a fair few times to explain it but I can't.

There was kind of a big deal about it (huge understatement), but in theory yes, though it's not going to be taking effect for another few years, and if Obama loses the election it's entirely possible that Romney will sweep it under the proverbial rug. Yeah, lots of people threatening to move to Canada to evade the evils of the apparent budding Mother Russia within the country.robotthepirate wrote:So the US is still potentially going to do the NHS thing then? Yeah, there are flaws, but the system we have in place right now is so fucked up that I'm not going to stand int he corner with my arms crossed waiting for the perfect plan. I can't speak for everyone, and I don't profess to, but it'd be nice to know that there may come a day when if someone in my family gets injured, the second thought after "ouch" isn't "Oh fuck, how are we going to pay for this?"
From what I've heard, a lot of the issue people take is that people who want to exempt themselves from it will have to pay a tax penalty. Except I also heard that there isn't really a penalty for not paying that penalty, if that makes any sense. Kind of like "You don't want this program? You had better pay this fee... please..."

Re: Livejournal Thread 4: Can't kill what's already dead ins
I've had about two hours of sleep. Night before that, 4 hours. Night before that, 4 hours. I've been to a wedding of two very good friends that was just absolutely beautiful in so many ways, then partied all night to celebrate, followed by another night of partying and arriving at the airport at 3 am. I am exhausted from all the travel and staying up late with friends, and it was entirely and completely worth it. So I'm gonna try and catch some Z's on this flight back to the East Coast so I can get some sleep so I am well rested to resume the tactical exercise at Fort Lee I'm in the middle of.

yeah to much money is funnelled into healthcare. collectively we spend like 3 trillion a year in healthcare in this country and were like number 30 as far as average lifespans go. somethings quite amiss.

Well, thats what happens when healthcare is treated like a commodity and not a service. Which is ridiculous because I can't sell you some of my health, nor stockpile it for when I might need more of it. I can do that with other commodities, but not health.Phact0rri wrote:yeah to much money is funnelled into healthcare. collectively we spend like 3 trillion a year in healthcare in this country and were like number 30 as far as average lifespans go. somethings quite amiss.
