Good topic, dude! I started for a couple of reasons. I had wanted to do a comic for a while and tried to start one on Christmas Day in '99. I lost interest pretty quick though. The next month one of my friends tried to kill himself. It sent everyone in out circle of friends into shock. We all started dealing in our own ways. Mine was to draw. It took some time, but eventually I decided to do a second strip in a different format to try and work out frustration and deal with my feelings. I'm still going.
------------------

I jumped on the bandwagon. All my friends were doing it. "I've got more talent than these fools!" I thought. Then reality hit me, but it was far too late...
Still, my 50th strip is going up next week, so clearly I've had some sort of strong motivation. Would somebody please tell me what it is?
------------------

Like most of you, I've been reading and drawing comics since i was a little kid. It's just something I love to do. I love to write and to draw, and comics combine the two so perfectly. It's become so ingrained in my life that I can't imagine not making comics. As for the particular comic I'm doing now - I started it several years ago, and I've stuck with it through pain and happiness and, well, everything. Last year I stumbled upon Keenspace and decided to take a chance and share it with the world. I'm really glad I did.
------------------

Mine is sort of a bobandgeorge.com fan comic, but with original characters. I always liked bobandgeorge.com and decided I'd do something like that!
------------------

I started my comic to see how long it would take for me to get sued by the people that the comic is based on.
That, and babes. Gotta have the babes.
------------------

Why'd I start a comic? Because there's nothing I hate more than having creativity go to waste. This seemed like one of the best options, so here I am!
------------------

I just like to draw stuff and tell good stories. Drawing stuff is cool. Making emotions play on a page from just a bunch of lines really brings some kind of satisfaction to my soul. I don't know of any other medium where the creator has so much control of his/her craft; well except maybe God, so I guess we are all gods in a way. There is so much that still needs to be explored in this genre of story telling. When you think about it, like Scott McCloud says, we are in our infancy as a medium. Let' raise this baby right, and show the world just how important comics can be!
------------------

well my comic started out as a pet project. then I had daydreams about it and It tottally blew up. Acctually, I have always wanted a way to Illustrate one of my numerous stories, and the Idea of designing T-shirts makes me laugh evilly
--------------------------------------------- http://elven.keenspace.com/

I've wanted to write a comic ever since I first picked up issue 1 of The Books Of Magic mini-series. I was completely enraptured and drawn in. I've always been drawn to writing, but unlike putting my thoughts into essays or short stories - which I've been doing for years - comics present a challenge for me. Its also very different from the music industry, where I work my day job. I've become addicted to the physical art medium over the years, but unfortunately, I've been plagued with flakey artists who are interested in quick success over just working on something cool.
I'm so not at all interested in pursuing something like publishing, and that's a reason I've kept at it - its hassle free and I can just do it without needing a response. Too bad no one else sees it that way, eh? I should learn to draw one of these days.
-Chris
