Apply to SpiderForest - Webcomic host and collective!

Post by Warofwinds »

Hey y'all, long time to talkie. It's that time of year again! The SpiderForest webcomic collective is accepting applications for new members. I am going to have a hypothetical conversation with myself now:

First, before get in a tizzy here, what is SpiderForest?
Well, it's a free host to those who need one (no ads either!) and it's an awesome group of webcomic-making people who crosslink you to everyone else.

Why the application process?

We are not Smackjeeves or Drunkduck (oh, s'cuse me, The DUCK is it now?). There is quality control. Just a wee bit.

Who chooses the comics who join?
Well, we all do. Everybody gets together (online of course) and spends a good MONTH going over applications that are sent in. We argue, we tangent, we derail, we rerail, and then we decide with an anonymous vote. And we take this voting thing VERY seriously.

How do I know if I'm ready to join (if I'm even interested, you sound so preppy!)
Well, I can't speak to your own confidence in your work. It's there, or it's not. Generally people know when they're good enough at something. You don't have to be great. Heck, they let me in there like 5 years ago when my comic was so noobish it hurts to even look at those pages now! But I took a chance. You never really know unless you take a chance.

WHY should I apply?
Some people don't mind going about this webcomic business on their own. They've got some loose affiliations going with friends, they pay for their own advertising and hosting, and that's fine. But in a collective you get cross-advertising, you get noticed, you are encouraged, and you get reputation (hopefully the good kind). Many people working together often make something better than one person working on his or her own.

Application info is here: http://spiderforest.net/apply

Applications close at the end of the day, Jan 24th.

Hey, I'll back Spiderforest :) Cat Legend and its spinoff Legends (my current project) have been over there for a few years and I totally dig the community. Good peeps.
