In short, Cope is right. I was trying to emulate a more realistic style and was taking a lot of reference from random old pictures I googled. I don't think people really started standardly smiling in pictures until a little further into the 1920's as photography speed increased, and I figured that this "photo" was "taken" with an older, slower camera, and that they might have been sitting there for a while.

Although I must say that Uly (upper left corner) looks like he'd gladly stand there all day having his picture taken, with that earnest look on his face!

Yeah, back then photographing was a major annual event in one's life, and it was thought that everyone should look as formal as possible in photos.

The Blackhawks defeated the Canucks two years in a row in the NHL Playoffs, and are meeting again for the third year in a row this very night. Needless to say, these two teams hate each other. This is a gag pic I drew to celebrate that fact since I know someone that lives in British Columbia.

People with PKU. It's unrelated to diabetes, but similar in that they have to test their blood. Unlike diabetes it's to manage their protein levels instead of sugar.

It's because you're trying to embed the url for the deviantart web page, not the image itself. A web page url will end with an extension like ".html" or ".htm" (or nothing at all, in this case). An image url will end with an image file extension, such as ".jpg", ".png" or ".gif".

Right click on the image and select "Copy Image Location" or the equivalent thereof to get the image's url.
