Yes, that's mostly it.
Oh, that's not bad. It's much worse when you stop updating and nobody notices.
All my readers tell me is that they think that one of my leads looks like Rukia from Bleach, and have done so in the middle of a story line so I can't change anything (which would be the hair I suppose. Thats all you need for differentiation when it comes to most anime...).

I don't really find reader comments to ever be particularly insightful or helpful, but more encouraging, and I'm definitely more motivated to work on the next strip whenever I receive a comment. They always make my week.

That's the worst. I like how as designers and writers we put so much time and effort into character designs and comics to have passerbys tell us what anime character they look like or what RPG the plot reminds them of. Nothing in this world is original anymore, man, it's just how you tell the story that makes it good.

I've learned you should never, ever have a character in your comic named Lupus.

I don't really get any comments. The few I do get are usually from people/webcomickers I know. Don't get any fan mail either, really. I did get a trolly commentor last month or so, but he turned out to be some assjack co-worker who was upset I didn't have nice things to say about this area on one of my podcasts. So it wasn't like he was even a real troll or anything. :(

Not to be a killjoy, but every time someone makes the House "It's never Lupus" reference, I'm reminded that my mother does, in fact, have Lupus. So I'm right there with Cope - *shakes fist at house.* (In Ugly Girl, Tilde's mom has Lupus, too. I've never mentioned it by name in the comic, though. Now with all the House references, I don't think I'm going to, either.)

I regularly watch House and I don't even find why "it's not lupus" is so funny. It's mentioned maybe 3 times in the entire show, and as far as I can remember it's not a quote. :shifty:

The best way I've found to promote feedback is to put a shoutbox on your comics page. If people have to actually take the trouble to write you e-mails, then, no, you're not going to get much. And yes, I enjoy getting responses. At least they help correct my spelling mistakes.

I actually get a lot of comments via my smackjeeves and drunk duck comment systems. But those are mostly people who already have accounts. On my main site I have a shoutbox, and I make sure to put it right next to the comic so people don't miss it. Often times if you put important info or comment boxes further down on the page, people just glaze over it.

Nearly six years and only two comments, each shorter than five words. I don't know if that means I'm doing really poorly or my readers really can't read. So I've decided to just keep going anyway I see fit, readers be damn.

I usually don't get a comment unless something sexual happens in the comic, which must mean my readers are nothing but a bunch of perverts.

I added comment boxes to all the side story comics on Red City, but they are there namely for readers to tell me when they can't read something (many of those comics werent intended for digital publication), so in that case no comments are a good thing.

I just think that it's weird that when you say the word, people associate it with house and not with it's, you know, obvious latin meaning. It's like if you said Franz Ferdinand, and your first thought is band.
I regularly watch House and I don't even find why "it's not lupus" is so funny. It's mentioned maybe 3 times in the entire show, and as far as I can remember it's not a quote.
O think that it was mentioned regularly when Cameron was on team because it's in her area of expertise so it's always her first idea. When they canch House hiding drugs in hollowed-out book about lupus, he says the actual quote. I think that what's actually funny is that the name gets thrown around very often but most of viewers don't have idea what it actually is.

Reader comments are a mixed bag. I've never gotten a comment that was 100% positive, the closest I've gotten featured a phrase like "if you can look past the art..." which is never what you want to hear. :/

How do people do their comments? I've tried a lot of different things... currently I'm trying DISQUS but I don't like how long it takes to load on a slow connections.

I use cbox:
http://www.cbox.ws/

It doesn't allow for big long messages, but most people don't need to write them. Plus, as I already noted, it can go right out on your main page, making it easy for people to reply.

Yeah shoutboxes are definitely the way to go.

The most hilarious "fan" mail I ever got was someone who had apparently read the small text I had at the very very bottom on my old Keenspace site, which read more or less like "email me for any comments, critiques, death threats, marriage proposals, etc"
And sent me a convoluted couple of sentences responding to every word, such as "Your comic is awesome except it sucks and i wish you were dead will you marry me.."

Cue hysterical laughter. But they had blocked their email somehow so i could never reply back :(

Oh, I don't have problems with negative reader comments.

Because you need readers for that. :shifty:

And a comic.
