I wonder if we'll have an emo phase.
Re: A scientific survey.
Twenty Ten all the way. More futuristic. Hopefully it'll inspire scientists to get back to work on that Mars mission and flying cars.
Re: A scientific survey.
I'm in the two thousand ten boat at the moment, but I predict migrating to the twenty ten side just because it sounds so concise.
Not to be a stickler but if I remember correctly from math class "and" is only used with fractions, so "two thousand and ten" is incorrect...

Algebra has so many applications in the real world.
As if I could remember or care about anything I was taught in maths class.
Actually, I'd have added "two-thousand ten" as an option if I'd known so many people would choose it.

Re: A scientific survey.
You're almost correct, it's used if there's a whole number and a fraction, i.e. 2 3/4 is "two and three-quarters." It's also used for decimals in cash amounts, which is where most people misuse it, like when writing checks. $234 is "two hundred thirty four dollars" but $234.56 is "two hundred thirty four dollars and fifty-six cents."Toxic wrote:I'm in the two thousand ten boat at the moment, but I predict migrating to the twenty ten side just because it sounds so concise.

I vote twenty ten because it is less syllables and I am lazy.

Re: A scientific survey.
I say "Two thousand and nine" because I keep forgetting the year just changed.
Someday, someday I'll finish Confabulation. That day is not today, however.

I voted for neither because I call it either "twenty-ten" if I'm just being lazy, or by it's proper name, "Two thousand ten", if I'm being specific.

Take your age.
Multiply by 10.
subtract 100.
Add the year of the first atomic blast at the Trinity site.
divide by 5
Add the year Jeremiah Horrocks died.
Subtract double your age.

I'm calling it "o' ten". Because it still works. I feel sorry for those saps in the 2100s, they'll REALLY have to think it over.
