I beat GTA: San Andreas last night.

Well, technically it was after midnight, therefore this morning, therefore it happened today.

The smell of books, cute furry animals, and Star Trek. Yes that makes me happy.

I got my 360 back today. I got the 3 red rings of death back in august and after months of getting the run around from microsoft, and a lot of apathy on my part. I got it fixed!

I built a new shelf and have been gleefully rearranging things.
I often wonder why I never got a part-time job as a librarian at any point. I alphabetize our movies and I make an effort to not do the same with the books. Although they are loosely arranged by size, author, and genre, in that order.

sigh.

As part of my final D&D session here in Iraq, the group helped simulate a run through of my "Haunted Mansion" dungeon to help develop the early part as well as provide idea contributions. We ran the rough storyline up to the first major encounter and hammered out a lot of the DMing details to get it really chugging. At the end, we were all extremely excited and saying "this sounds like a great damn dungeon" and two insisted I email them the completed version when it was all said and done.

Stars & Stripes published another of my letters. This makes at least my third letter in this year. I'd write more often, but I'm limited to one letter per month and there's only so much stupid I can take at any given time. Well, this particular letter I'm proud of because there was some morons writing and complaining about some of the comic strips being printed in Stars & Stripes. Their letter is here: http://www.stripes.com/article.asp?sect ... icle=66847

Well, seeing as I can not abide stupid of this caliber on this subject going unchallenged, I wrote a reply. My reply is here: http://www.stripes.com/article.asp?sect ... icle=67022 In it, I assert that the writer is closed minded and assumes theirs is the only opinion that matters, and to boot they need to STFU on comics because I know more than they do. I even managed to give webcomics as a genre a plug. That alone made me happy.

Had I not been limited to 300 words, I'd have gladly written an editorial on the subject, possibly an essay. Still, I did hit my 300 word limit on the dot.

So, I'm feeling extra happy because I laid the verbal smackdown on some imbecile.

Nice one, Laem. I feel the same way you do but was never able to articulate why. Way to stick it to the man! Or... or the other letter writer!

the blatant ineptness of middle schoolers

Did you know Paris is a country?
And that the answer to "How did Monet get money to pay his rent?" is "Sail Paintings"

I'd sure like to sail paintings....

I'm going to paint sails on all those unused canvases in our bedroom and use them to pay rent.
That would rock.
Especially since I don't paint all that well.

On a happier note, I am SO glad I actually picked up the phone when my boss called today. I now no longer have to be in work in the early AM (which is horrible now that I've become accustomed to such late nights all the time - the smell of raw burger is nauseating at seven in the morning). Now I get to go in for two, and I still have tomorrow off. Rawk.

I figured out why my markers didn't get delivered yet.

I never pushed "confirm order" on the site I ordered from.

*round of applause for myself*

On the bright side I went in and un-ordered a bunch of the ones that are now out of stock and put in for a few to replace the handful or so of mine that are dried out. And laid out ~14 bucks so that they'll get here by the weekend. AND I PUSHED CONFIRM ORDER. Yeaaahhh!!!

Today I said "Fuck you" to the system and had two of my Soldiers receive the Army Achievement Medal after my Commander downgraded the initial award submission over bullshit reasons. It took me to my wit's end to accomplish this task under a very limited timeline (had to be edited, resigned, submitted, AND approved all before close of business today), but also under very difficult circumstances (no computer login access anymore, had to digitally resign everything that was edited, had basically one shot at getting the edited version approved).

In the end, however, my determination and seething rage at my Soldiers getting screwed over saw to everything being righted before dinner. My Soldiers got the awards they deserved, and the increased promotion points that go with it. I expect the system to let me down or otherwise screw things up, so these wins are massively epic because it reminds me what happens when you refuse to accept a bad situation and force it to change by sheer will, determination, and pestering the crap out of the right people.

The Y2010 bug makes me laugh. Only because I've got enough Christmas cash leftover to feed me until they get it solved, but to have the Y2K bug strike with a ten year delay makes me chuckle.
