I wish I hadn't drawn over the center like that, but oh well.

The notes say "I hate chows, but I love how their legs pop out from their furry bodies" and "the cashier at Burger King was staring at her so much he got my order wrong".

Last night my girlfriend and I went to a Halloween Wedding Reception, I went as an artist and she went as my muse. This is the sketch I drew while we were there, after the dancing and cavorting, of course. This morning I mixed the hue and saturation and levels and gave it a light digital wash.

It looks so smug. Like, "I'm adorable. You want to hug me." And it's so true!

You'd think that, but chows are the only dogs capable of being total assholes for no reason.

Started another short comic. Fantasy! A genre I don't really write much (ever (at all)).

cool stuff merc, i like your short comics.

I like how the color on this one turned out. even though my color theory is a little off, but i like the way shades of reds and blues play off each other more than red and green. red and green always makes me think too much of christmas.

I'll admit I say this a lot, so I may just be ignorant of a popular style...
...but I think you need to start making your noses more defined. They look like beaks to me.

I'm pretty sure that's done "in the style of", as is most of the work SP posts to these threads.

well part of it is emulating a particular style, but really i don't like drawing noses. I can draw them, but noses have always seemed superfluous to me and unless the are an important distinct characteristic I don't pay them much attention. Plus I tend to have a lot of modernist Influences and those artist would tell you realistic representations aren't all that important.
I'm not trying to use style as a defense, in fact my Prof. used to yell at me saying I was to stylized and too "anime". I should work on it but i'm old and set in my ways.

Well they look like beaks cause these "birds" are hot "chicks" haha bad joke.

What happened to Gwen's spine? Is she now a paraplegic? Or is it like an Exorcist thing?

Well from what I can tell the problem seems to be the solid straight line connecting the chin and nose. Contour that and you should be good. You may want to achieve this simply by angling the nose down a bit.

i'm aware that her waisted is twisted too much, it just sort of happened as I was drawing and I said " why bother fixing it, I like it" She's also missing her right arm and leg. there's a few more mistakes but I'm not going to point them out.

I see what you're saying Serge, I should have sculpted the area between the tip of her nose and her chin. giving it a more natural shape. I rush too much when I draw. I should let them sit for awhile before inking then I would notice these things.

Mvmarcz nice duck. is that hand painted?

wow, I actually didn't even notice that at all. Clearly my anatomy snark needs more work. (I've been watching too much Atop the Fourth Wall lately >_>)

I do really like the coloring on it though, although another question occurred to me: why Gwen and Bridget? Just curious.

Yes Mr. Drake is oil on canvas. I challenged myself and used one natural brush of a larger size than normal of everything but detail work(I usually only use small synthetic brushes). I also did it using a different stroke style than normal which is most evident in the background and coat. :)

RPin that's adorable. I just love your coloring.

nice work Rpin! well colored and drawn.

Mvmarcz cool! oil painting can be very rewarding, and I feel one of the best ways to learn to use color since it requires such a deliberate effort to mix them. I think oils are better than acrylic, though more difficult to work with. They have a better look and better texture to them.

Tellurider as for why Gwen and Bridget, I like both characters even though they are so very different, I suppose it reflects the contrdictions in my own personality. I like to use these characters as a means to and end in creating a work and not straight fan pics. I like mixing contrasting elements, the out going surfer girl and the introverted goth. Then using body language and color to reinforce these contrasts. then to top It off I mix in the romantic element to counter balance the contrast. I feel it creates tension that is interesting to look at. The goal is to create something that has the overall impact of being a work that people will look more deeply at than just sexy girlie pics. It doesn't always work that way but I'm still learning.
