Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
My webcomic theory: Webcomics initially start out like crap. The more you work the better you get.
And in fact, that's the beauty of webcomics. The reader gets to see the slow transformation. What other place can you be given such an awesome opportunity?

Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
Um, yeah… I usually read the archive when I'm trying to convince myself that I just have to do an old crap panel over again to make it shiny and new and so much better. That's why some of the strips end up looking like they belong to different comics. Like this monday's strip. Well, it might be nice for the reader to see the amazingly quick transformation back and forth from panel to panel… It's the frankenstein monster of comic art.Kris X wrote:And in fact, that's the beauty of webcomics. Another reason I read the archives is to see if there is actually enough of a storyline for people to grab onto. I designed the strip to be read in book form so this twice-a-week schedule is a bit odd sometimes.
Basically, I read some of the archives every month or so and the whole thing every three months.

I'd rather see some strips/panels that look like they might belong in a different comic than have B>U syndrome.
Yeah, I read my own comic from time to time, if only to remind myself what not to do (the early archives aka anything pre-2007).

What Komi saidIf it's an ongoing story, you pretty much *have* to.. I know I didn't for a while, but then readers would catch me out with minor things I'd forgotten and I'd feel like an idiot.

Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
i go back and reread parts every once in a while in case I plan on fishing out some random remark and turning it into something significant.... what I mean to say is that I planned all of it from the start... yes, that was all intentional.
actually I went through the archive several times working on the new page setup and for my wiki.

Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
The way I do it is by coming up with the future significance of random remarks as I write them. So even as I'm making up the current arc as I go along, I'm gradually piecing together the material for future arcs. Hopefully this will lead to improvement in the plot as I go along. Unless I forget. And yeah, not so much the art, but just the presentation in my earlier strips is already getting kind of annoying for me.
Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
I have to go back constantly to refer to how I depicted stuff before, and to try and maintain plot-continuity. But re-read the whole archive? I've now done over 2000 of the things, so that doesn't happen often..
Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
Truth. I reread the entire comic every few months and always think I should either continue it or restart it (or at least fix the glaringly bad pages), but it's been so long since I drew anything my art skills have gone from mediocre to nonexistent.Terotrous wrote:Ocassionally, though it usually makes me feel like I should be updating my stuff, which I'm not.

Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
I've printed out a nice copy of my comics on card stock and keep them in a portfolio so i can quickly reread them. It helps since my drawing desk and my laptop are rarely in the same room.
Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
I used to go back more often. At this point I feel confident enough in the story that I don't need to as much though.
Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
I re-read my own strips every once in a while. I like seeing my artwork evolve and progress as time goes on, to see where I was from when I first started the strip, as compared to where I am today, and comparing the styles of both of my strips.
In general, though, I prefer to look at other artists' work. I'm not big on tooting my own horn.

Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
I sometimes reread what I wrote of a short lived fancomic I did, although more often and not I find myself critiquing it. Not always positively so.

I would guess that I reread the LG archive approximately every time it's grown 50% larger than the last time I read through it. This means in the beginning I read it over all the time, but now I probably won't for another 6 months.

Heck, in MY world, 'CG' doesn't mean 'Comic Genesis'...my comic is done in CG, with CGI.Dr Legostar wrote:for a second I thought you were talking about my comic and was very confused.Wendybird wrote:I would guess that I reread the LG archive approximately every time it's grown 50% larger than the last time I read through it. First time I saw 'CG' here, I was VERY confused...for about thirty seconds, but still.

Re: Query: Reading your own comic?
My style in writing and art fluctuated frequently over the life span of G'nerds2000. I go back pretty often to review what worked and what didn't.
Don't know if I'd do so if I maintained only one style and progressively strenghtend it.

Or something edgy and obscure like Doombees. But I like that other one too it reminds me of KeenspotDr Legostar wrote:yeah, if only they had come up with some better name for it, like Keenspace.. or something, I dunno.
