OMG Now What?
It just hit me that I'm like....21 now! I feel that in my short life I have accomplished a lot, and have fulfilled many of my dreams and goals. But like many people in my current position, I feel a weird lull. Like, what else is there left to in life? Yes, there's marriage and career and kids and stuff, but I mean, other than that??
Is it really gonna be just working and getting married and having kids and then more work until I maybe can retire and then kick the bucket??? I'm asking because it just hit me that such a life may be the only thing to look forward too after turning 21. And that's kind of depressing.
What do yall think? The older people. Do you guys feel fulfilled in life, or are you still searching for that thing that makes you happy?

Re: OMG Now What?
You have to have a goal. Something to live for. Somthing to drive you. The more rediculus and unrealistic it is, the longer it will last you and motivate you. Take me for instance. I hope to be the producer of an animated tv show I created. Will I ever achive this? Highly unlikly. Can I? Sure. I've been working on it for years. In the past two years or so, I've made great strides, writing a pilot, rewriting the pilot, making an animated short, rewriting the pilot, begining work on a bible, etc. I am driven to make this happen, even though I know chances are slim. And if it does happen, and I make the show, then after it gets canceled I'll begin another. Besides, I have other goals as well. Create goals for yourself. That will give your life perpose.
I've noticed these "early-life-crisis"s are becoming encreasingly more common.
Then some people try to relive their youth with nostolgia, watching old shows and movies they've seen as kids.

Nah, the real lull comes when you hit 25. that's when your auto insurance goes down, the last perk of getting older. quite a nice one, too.
I would not say that I am where I want to be, but that's largely because I've been battling medical problems. Still, it's not like life is a game where you try to achieve something and that's it. It's about the process, which is ongoing. Its the doing that matters, and to not stop doing.
Also, you're entirely too sober to the 21. I didn't count a single spelling error! You should demand a refund.

Silly Senshi, all life is empty and meaningless. Unless you become a legendary homicidal maniac, invent something superawesome, start/end a war, or manage to make an astounding work of art, you'll be entirely forgotten in about 150 years, assuming that you have children and grandchildren. And even if you DO accomplish one of the aforementioned memorable things, it all ends when the sun grows cold and the earth is doomed.
But! Now you're old enough to drown your despair and ennui in alcohol! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

Yeah, this is a common thing for people our age group to experience. You're out of school, but haven't started a career yet and don't have anything really tying you down in one spot. It's a period for growth, change, and deciding how you want your life to sort of play out~~
Of course, things will probably change from that in 5 years so don't sweat it all that much.

Re: OMG Now What?
This is like the exact opposite of my experience. I'm still stunned by how ridiculously dull work life is. Get up, go to work, come home, kill time, go to sleep, repeat. Oh my god, has it really been 6 months?Mercury Hat wrote:Yeah, this is a common thing for people our age group to experience. On the plus side, you get used to it.

Fuck me, I'm 27 years old and you're mincing about how bad you have it?
Damn noobs to living! I don't have a career, my job fails, I don't have a car and still live with my ma...
...and I feel GREAT!!! I'm having more fun than when I was 21 actually. Mainly to rub it in people's faces.

You just hit 21?! I just hit 30!!!
At 21, all you have to worry about is boozing it up until you turn 30!

Existence is a series of catastrophes through which everything barely but continually survives.

Re: OMG Now What?
Dude, you're 21, the best years of your life are right in front of you.
We all have our bad days when we think that life is just a work-eat-sleep routine until you die. If you find a job that's remotely interesting and challenging, you won't be seeing it only as a thing to get over with every day, but also as something you might enjoy. Life consists of a lot of nice things, challenges, creativity, socializing with other people, and so on.

Re: OMG Now What?
I turned 30 earlier this year. 21 seems like a lifetime ago. I had a lot more fun from 21 to 30 than i had under 21. sure as you get older you get fatter and your hair falls out and you're tired all the time and you ache for no good reason and everyone tells what you shouldn't eat anymore and that you should be out of bed before noon and you should wear pants and mojitos aren't in the food pyramid and you'd rather watch reruns of old sitcoms than porn and your coworkers frown upon you for being drunk during the day, but besides all that getting old isn't to bad.
oh and get a good ira/401k now.

Re: OMG Now What?
more 30 year olds than I thought hmms... I don't feel so old now. Just moderately so. as to the topic at hand.
life is what you make of it. i would say that everyone has things that guide them. for some people its obvious, for others its a smaller hum. but ultimately live for what makes you happy. life is not something where people will get to a spot and be content. as we grow older and learn new things, those things that make us content will change. So live for the now. have fun when you can, and see what life brings you.
i am one who loves to test new waters, to explore, and ultimately see what works out the best for me. I like everyone have dreams, things that drive me and things I would like to do. However i find it hard to believe that these things are all there is to life. success is nice, but if you spend all your time going "I'm gonna write this great novel" or "i'm going to compose a hit song" then you've abandoned the little things that make life great.
At 21 i say don't worry so much about 'whats next'. Instead think about what you want to do... and do it! don't save all those "wow it'd be cool go to paris' until your old. As a person who was afraid of just trying to do things as a young adult, if I can pass something on. its, just don't wait to do the things you want to. Life all of life needs to be a fulfilling experience. life is not an exam meant to be crunched in at the last moment. if you can do them, do them. there will be more things to want, no one really runs out of fun things they'd love to do.
